Community Calendar for Week of September 2

THURSDAYS
Hope for Addiction meetings are held every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 2150 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane.

FRIDAYS DURING SUMMER
Food Truck Friday is held every Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SATURDAYS UNTIL OCTOBER
The Putnam County Farmers’ Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park, Hurricane.

SEPTEMBER 3
Cross Lanes United Methodist Church is offering the Baby Love Pantry, which provides free diapers, sizes newborn – 6, and wipes as well as formula when available. The pantry will be open from 10:30 a.m. – to noon. For more information, call (304) 415-3194.
There will be an adopt-a-thon for the Putnam County Animal Shelter at 11 a.m. at Cricket Wireless, 4144 WV Route 34, Hurricane.

SEPTEMBER 4
There will be a community hike from 9 a.m. to noon at Ridenour Lake in Nitro.
The Nitro Jeepfest will be held at the Nitro Public Library from noon until 6 p.m. Barn Holler Boys, Alien Super Jesus and Poser Joe will be performing.

SEPTEMBER 5
Quilts of Valor-West Virginia will be set up on the West Virginia State Capital Steps in Charleston from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. This display of 125+ Quilts of Valor is to pay tribute to veterans.
The City of Nitro’s annual Fireworks Show will take place at City Park. The show will begin at dark (9:15 p.m.).
River Ridge Church, 1 Saturn Way, Hurricane, will be hosting Global Missions Night of Prayer at 6 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 8
Teays Valley Baptist Church, Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, will be hosting AWANA Kick-Off Extravaganza from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Bible Lessons, Inflatables, Video Game Trailer, Euro Bungee, & More!

SEPTEMBER 9 – NOVEMBER 5

Southridge will be performing at 7 p.m. at the Barnyard BBQ in Hurricane.
The Hurricane First Church of God, located at 3225 East Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, will be holding their monthly Second Friday Gospel Sing at 7 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 11
The Tri-State Exotic Animal Expo will start at 10 a.m. at the India Center, 800 Green Road, South Charleston. Admission is $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
The Lyons Family Reunion will start at 1 p.m. at Eleanor Circle.
The 8th Annual Ride for Jesus will start at 10 a.m. at the Iron Horse Church WV, 120 Blackwood Avenue, Nitro.
The Putnam County Homecoming will be held in Winfield.
American Legion Post 187 will hold its annual September 11 ceremony at 1 p.m. at the main stage at the Putnam County Homecoming.
The West Virginia Waterman Challenge on the Kanawha River will be held at the Winfield boat ramp. This is part of the WV Paddle Racing Series: Kayak – SUP – Canoe. For more information, go to https://www.facebook.com/appalachian boardingcompany

Mothers of Preschoolers will be hosting a preview play date at 10 a.m. at Valley Pakr in Hurricane.

The Winfield Nazarene Church, 10822 Winfield Road, Winfield, will be holding a kickoff celebration for The Quest Pointing Families Towards Jesus from 6 to 8 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 16
There will be a seminar on the Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Journey at 6 p.m. at the Bancroft Town Park.

SEPTEMBER 17 – 19
Mary Ingles Trail Associates (MITA) will present the 2021 Legacy of Mary Ingles encampment and living history re-enactment at Beech Fork State Park.

SEPTEMBER 18
The St. Albans Founder’s Day will start at 10 a.m. on Main Street.
Community Autism Resources & Education Systems (CARES) is hosting September Summer Day Camp from noon to 6 p.m. at Camp Appalachia, 167 Fletcher Road, Scott Depot. This will be the last camp of the season. For more information, call 304-696-3013.
