2023 Miss Putnam County Candidates

On Sunday, September 10, Miss Putnam County 2023 will be named at the annual Putnam County Homecoming. Judges will select from four candidates representing each of the county’s four high schools.

Each candidate is a senior who was selected by classmates at the end of the 2022-23 school year to represent their school.

An essay of introduction by each participant follows:

Miss Buffalo,
Abigail Landers

Hello, my name is Abigail Landers. I am representing Buffalo High School as Miss BHS. I am the daughter of Kevin and Amy Landers and sister to Seth and Sarah Landers. I have grown up in Eleanor and attended school at George Washington Elementary, George Washington Middle, and now Buffalo High School. My escort, Carson Saunders, is also a senior at Buffalo High School. He is the son of Jeff and Kim Saunders.
During my years at Buffalo High School, I have participated in many activities. I run cross country and track. I am the secretary for Bison for Christ and National Teenage Republicans. I am a representative of student council. I attend and participate in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Farmers of America, pep club, and prom committee. I attend Midway Church regularly. After high school, I plan to attend Marshall University and pursue a degree in Elementary Education.
I would like to thank my senior class at Buffalo High School for giving me this opportunity to represent Buffalo High School. Good luck to all the girls! Go Bison!

Miss Hurricane,
Julia Bobersky

Hi, my name is Julia Bobersky, representing Hurricane High school as Miss Hurricane. I am the daughter of Shelley Marsteller and Brad Bobersky and I have an older sister, Meredith, a little brother, Bradley, and two step brothers, Chase and Carsen. I have grown up in Hurricane and attended West Teays Elementary School, Hurricane Middle School, and I am currently a senior at Hurricane High School.
While attending Hurricane High School, I have been involved in the National Honors Society. I am the historian for our school’s student body for this upcoming year and the past years my position was the publicity chair. I am a member of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes.) I will be joining the yearbook club this year. Lastly, I was part of the prom committee this past year.
For my extracurricular activities, I am on the West Virginia Wild Swim team. I am senior captain for the Hurricane High School swim team. I am a coach and swimmer for the Sleepy Hollow swim team. I was on the West Virginia Southern Zones swim team sophomore and junior year, competing in Mississippi.
In my free time, I love spending time with my family and friends, working out, traveling, shopping, and taking pictures. I also lifeguard and teach swim lessons at Sleepy Hollow.
After high school I plan to attend college and continue swimming.
I am very grateful for this opportunity to represent my school as Miss Hurricane and I would like to thank all my classmates and friends for supporting me.

Miss Poca,
Klaire LeRose

Hey! I am Klaire LeRose. My parents are Chris and Kari LeRose of Poca. My siblings are Christian, Katherine, and Kamille. I have lived in the Poca area with my family all my life. I attended Rock Branch Elementary, Poca Middle School, and now I am a senior at Poca High School. At PHS, I am involved in many things as a student athlete. I am the Vice President of my class and a Link Crew leader. I am also a member of the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. I am on the prom committee and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes!
I am a captain this year for the PHS Varsity Cheer squad, and in June I was chosen as a Universal Cheerleader Association All American Cheerleader. I have been honored to receive All Conference in Varsity Cheer for the last 3 years! I play center field on the PHS Varsity Softball team while also being a member of the PHS Track team. I currently hold the school record for Girls Shot Put and was named 1st team All State!
Outside of school and sports, I love to stay home and spend time with my family and my Weiner dog Walter! I have lots of cousins who all live in Putnam County, and they are my best friends! I am a member of the Nitro Church of the Nazarene, and I am part of the youth group there also.
After graduation, I plan to attend Marshall University and hope to become a Division 1 Cheerleader! I will major in business, and plan on attending Cosmetology school after graduation. I hope to someday own my own salon!
I am thankful to God for all the blessings that living in Putnam County has given me such as my faith, my family, my friends, my schools, my teachers, my coaches, and most of all this opportunity to represent the BEST high school in the county! ONCE A DOT, ALWAYS A DOT!

Miss Winfield,
Jenna Briscoe

Hi! My name is Jenna Briscoe and I am honored to represent Winfield High School at the 2023 Putnam County Homecoming. I am the daughter of David and Lora Briscoe and I have two sisters, Kennedy and Sophie. I am a lifelong resident of Winfield and a third generation General. My grandfather and both of my parents graduated from Winfield High School.
I’m thankful for all the opportunities I have both socially and academically at Winfield High School. I‘m a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, FCA, Pep Club, Link Crew, class officer, and vice president of the Fuel Bible Club. I also participate in basketball and track.
I believe community service is very important. I joined Key Club to seek volunteer opportunities throughout the community, such as food drives, book drives, and volunteering at nursing homes. I have also helped with local 5k fundraisers. I am a member of Teays Valley Baptist Church, and I am actively involved with our youth group. I enjoy volunteering at Bible school and teaching younger kids about God.
Education is valued greatly at Winfield High School. I maintain a 4.0 GPA while taking many college courses and classes that will prepare me to attend Marshall University in the fall of 2024. I plan to pursue a degree in business/marketing and one day hope to own my own hair salon. I am thankful for the support and encouragement from all of my teachers and staff at WHS. Thank you Winfield, for giving me this great opportunity. Go Generals!
