Grand Jury Returns 44 Indictments

Putnam County Prosecuting Attorney, Mark A. Sorsaia, reports that indictments were returned by the November 2021 Term Putnam County Grand Jury alleging forty-four persons committed one hundred forty-five felonies and thirty-nine misdemeanors. The following is the defendant’s year of birth, last known address, and offenses for which they were indicted.
Ernest L. Alexander III (1985) of St. Albans – unlawful taking of a vehicle and fraudulent use of an unauthorized access device (4)
Brian D. Alford (1977) of South Charleston – malicious assault
Zachary J. Benson (2001) of 44 Collins Drive, Nitro – burglary and grand larceny
D avid A. Burdette (1980) of 4455 Balls Branch Road, Culloden – driving on a revoked license-DUI related, third offense
Cameron J. Burks (1993) of 44 Chadesa Drive, Hurricane – breaking and entering, grand larceny, attempt to commit breaking and entering
Bryant V. Burns (1993) of Baltimore, MD – possession of a stolen vehicle, delivery of a controlled substance, driving a motor vehicle without a current and valid certificate of inspection, fleeing from a law-enforcement officer by means other than the use of a vehicle
Brittany D. Casto (1992) of Charleston – conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (2), possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription

Further, pursuant to Rule 3.6(b)(6) of the West Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct governing attorneys, the fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime, is merely an accusation, and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
