Community Calendar for Week of January 6

TUESDAYS IN JANUARY
There will be a Dancing Through the Decades class from 8 to 9 p.m. at Lee’s Studio of Dance, 8325 Winfield Road, Building D, Winfield.

JANUARY 7 – 9
The Hurricane Show Choir Annual Dinner Theater wiill be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday; noon and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. on Sunday. $20 for adults; $15 for children 10 and under. For reservations, call 304-859-3376.

JANUARY 7
The Putnam County Republican Women will be hosting a Law Enforcement Appreciation Day drop-in reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Winfield Community Center, 178 2nd Street, Winfield.
Putnam County Schools Developmental Screenings will be held at Teays Valley Baptist Church, Teays Valley Road. Please call 304-586-0500 ext. 1112 to schedule an appointment.
There will be a yarn lovers’ gathering for knitters and crocheters at 7 p.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. There will also be a Crochet 101 class for $20.

JANUARY 7 – MAY 20
There will be crafts for toddlers from 10 a.m. to noon at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $5.

JANUARY 8 – FEBRUARY 12
There will be a women’s self-defense six week course from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays at Pinnacle Karate Center, 3544 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

JANUARY 8
The Rhodes family reunion will be held at 3 p.m. at the Buffalo town hall.
The City of Nitro will be holding a community hike from 10 a.m. to noon at Ridenour Lake. Meet at the parking lot before Shelter 4.
The Putnam County Farmers Market will be holding an off season pop up market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV State Route 34, Hurricane.

JANUARY 9
Hurricane Crush Run 5k Course Preview and Trail Running Clinic will start at 2 p.m. at Hurricane City Park.

JANUARY 11 – MAY 24
There will be a free community Bible Study on Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. and Bible art journaling from 10 a.m. to noon at My messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane.

JANUARY 13 – MAY 19
There will be a arts and crafts class on Thursdays at 1 p.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. Ages 4 and up. The cost is $5 per participant.

JANUARY 14 – MAY 20
There will be Friday Crafternoon classes for children from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. Ages 4 and up. The cost is $5-10 per participant.

JANUARY 15
The Poca High School’s show choir, Visual Volume, will be holding its annual competition show premier. Desserts will be served starting at 1:00 p.m. and will be served until 4:15 PM. Show times are at 1:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.. Tickets are $7 for the general public and $5 for students and children.
Community Autism Resources and Education Systems will be holding a pool party from 7 to 9 p.m. at Tri-County YMCA, 200 Carls Lane, Scott Depot. For more information, call 304-306-0847.
The second annual Health and Wellness Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

JANUARY 22
There will be a free karate beginner family workshop for ages 5 and up at Pinnacle Karate Center, 3544 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

JANUARY 25
There will be a ribbon cutting for the National Youth Advocate Program at 12086 Winfield Road, Winfield, from 4 to 7 p.m.
