The Dots did it again! Poca brought the State Class AA Basketball Championship trophy home for the third time on Saturday, March 19. Poca plowed through Magnolia, 43-19, in the quarterfinals and crushed Ravenswood, 60-32, in the semifinals on Friday before outplaying Bluefield, 65-48, in Saturday’s finale.
Last year, Poca fell to Williamstown, 50-47, in the State Championship game. The agony of that defeat was largely erased by the thrill of Saturday’s victory.
The Dots were led in scoring by West Virginia Player of the Year Isaac McKneely’s 22 points but it was team defense which brought the title home. The Dots did not allow a single fast-break point.
Poca had previously won Class AA basketball titles in 1997 and 2015.
