Community Calendar for Week of May 12

MONDAYS
There is a free Zumba class at Valley Park in Hurricane starting at 5:30 p.m.

TUESDAYS NOW – MAY 24
There will be a free community Bible Study on Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. and Bible art journaling from 10 a.m. to noon at My messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane.

WEDNESDAYS NOW – MAY 25
There will be workshops every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. Create seasonal decore, wreaths, signs, paint pouring, crochet, cards, jewelry, and more.

THURSDAYS NOW – MAY 19
There will be home school arts and crafts classes from 1 to 2 p.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $5 per participant.

FRIDAYS NOW – MAY 20
There will be crafts for toddlers from 10 a.m. to noon at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $5.
There will be Friday Crafternoon classes for children from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. Ages 4 and up. The cost is $5-10 per participant.

MAY 12 – 14
The Eleanor Town Wide Yard Sale will be held throughout Eleanor.

MAY 13
Emi Lee will be performing at 6 p.m. at the Barnyard BBQ on Hospital Drive in Hurricane.
The Hurricane First Church of God, 3225 East Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, will be holding a Second Friday Gospel Sing starting at 7 p.m. Featured performers include the Brighterside Quartet, and soloists Bro. Randy Parsons from Buffalo, and Sister Juanita Phillips from South Charleston.
There will be a foam dance party for children ages 6-10 from 6 to 7:30 a.m. at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $8 per child.

The GFWCWV Woman’s Club of Cross Lanes is sponsoring their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at the Nitro Park Walking Track from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. $10.00 Registration Fee. Rain Date is May 21st.
The Macholah Ballet will be holding their annual recital from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cabell Midland High School in Ona. The theme is Sow + Reap.
WV Home Mission Ladies LIFT invites all ladies to join them for a reflection on the “Women of the Bible” in word and song at 5 p.m. at WV Home Mission, 1128 Benamatti Avenue, Nitro.
The Nitro Youth Football Cheerleaders will be hosting a Pompoms and Pancakes fundraiser from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at Shima’s Family Restaurant, 505 1st Avenue S, Nitro. The cost is $8.

The Cpl. William B. Fulks Memorial 5K & 10K Trail Run/Walk will start at 9 a.m. at Hurricane City Park.
There will be a youth fishing derby to benefit Community Autism Resources and Education Systems from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. The cost is $15 per person.

RidgeStudents mo•men•tum (middle and high school students) are having a fiesta party from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at River Ridge Church, Saturn Way, Hurricane.

MAY 16
Facing Hunger Foodbank will be hosting a mobile food distribution from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Hometown Senior Center, 40 1st Avenue N, Hometown.

MAY 17
There will be a foster care information session at 10 a.m. at the Poca Library.
The Putnam County Main Library Book to Screen Book Club will be discussing The Hating Game by Sally Thorne at 5:30 p.m.

Hurricane Civic Chorus Presents “Sing On!” at 7 p.m. at the Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church in Hurricane.

MAY 18
Health Rocks, a series that teaches kids about living a healthy lifestyle, will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Library.

MAY 19
The Eleanor Library book club will be discussing The Comfort Book by Matt Haig at 5:30 p.m.
There will be a seminar called “Grandma’s Pie Plate: The Softer Side of Estate Planning” at 5:30 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
Health Made Simple: Dr. Mike Ewald will be discussing healthy lifestyle changes from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

MAY 20 – 21
The WV Pumpkin Spring Festival Craft and Vendor Event will be held at Pumpkin Park in Milton from noon to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. $5 admission.

The Poca High School Class of 1972 50th Reunion will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. There will be a catered meal with drinks and deserts. Cost is $25 per person. To RSVP, contact [email protected]
