Community Calendar for Week of June 16

MONDAYS THROUGH JULY 25
Community Autism Resources & Education Systems (CARES) will be hosting a Summer Social Group every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at Valley Park in Hurricane.

SATURDAYS THROUGH OCTOBER
The Putnam Farmers Market operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34 in Teays Valley.

JUNE 17
Grammy award winning Gullah band Ranky Tanky and local talent Minor Swing will be performing at 6:30 p.m. at Live on the Levee at Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston.
The Great American Petting Zoo will be coming to the Eleanor Piggly Wiggly from noon to 7 p.m.
There will be a Zumba class at 10 a.m. at the Winfield Community Center as part of West Virginia American Water’s Fitness Friday.
Winfield United Methodist Church, 20 Radwin Drive, will be holding a Parents’ Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m. Drop off your child for an evening of games, food, and fun. For more information and to register, check out the church’s Facebook page.
Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting Toast! at 8 a.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley.
First Baptist Church of Hurricane will be holding Recess Open House at 6:30 p.m. This is a mission designed for children with special needs and their siblings. For more information, call 859-533-4066.

JUNE 18
The Kanawha Valley Astronomical Society will meet at 7:00 p.m. at Camp Virgil Tate, 1400 Co Rte 7/3, Charleston. A program on Astrophotography will be given by Bill Brown and Ed Connor.
The Tour De Coal, the nation’s largest Flatwater Kayak Community Float event, will start at Meadowood Park in Tornado and finish at St. Albans. Registration is $30 per person. For more information, go to https://www.coalrivergroup.com/tour-de-coal.html

The Great American Petting Zoo will be coming to the Nitro Supermarket from noon to 7 p.m.

JUNE 20-24
Elizabeth Baptist Church in Bancroft will host Vacation Bible School from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. each evening.
Bethel Baptist Church on Hurricane Creek Road will be hosting “Discovery on Adventure Island” Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pre-K through Adult classes.

JUNE 20

Fitness Friday: Walk the Meeks Mountain Trail at Hurricane City park. The walk starts at 10 a.m. at the bottom parking lot.

JUNE 25
There will be a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hurricane First Church of God, East Lynn Street, Hurricane.
There will be a car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hurricane Walmart. Registration is $5 and starts at 9 a.m. Proceeds go to the Children’s Miracle Network.
