Community Calendar for Week of August 25

MONDAYS THROUGHOUT SUMMER
Community Autism Resources and Education Systems hosts a summer social group from 10 a.m. to noon at the Valley Park playground.
There are Zumba classes at 5:30 p.m. at the Commons at Valley Park in Hurricane.

FRIDAYS THROUGHOUT SUMMER
Food Truck Friday will be held on Main Street, Hurricane, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SATURDAYS THROUGH OCTOBER
The Putnam Farmers Market operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to Exxon on Route 34 in Teays Valley.

AUGUST 26 – 27
The 2022 West Virginia Cupcake Festival will be held at Valley Park in Hurricane. Car show on Friday from 4-8 p.m.; Cupcake Chase 5K at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

AUGUST 26
The Lonely Ones will be performing at 6:30 p.m. at Live at the Levee, Haddad Riverfront Park, Charleston.
There will be a catfish tournament at Ridenour Lake in Nitro from 4:30 to 11 p.m. The cost is $15 per person.
Putnam County Schools Developmental Screenings will be held at the Teays Valley Baptist Church, Teays Valley Road. Call 304-586-0500 ext. 1133 to schedule an appointment.

AUGUST 27
Lift Off! Drone Flight Exploration will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Clay Center in Charleston. For more information, call (304) 561-3570.
There will be a monthly swap meet from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Nitro Antique Mall/Third Floor Comics, 110 21st Street, Nitro.
The Bancroft town picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bancroft park.
The Town of Eleanor will be holding a movie night featuring the movie “School of Rock” from 8:45 to 11 p.m. at the Eleanor Pool.
There will be a food pantry at 8:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3653 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

AUGUST 28
The West Virginia Reptile Exile will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Virginia State University in Institute. Admission is $5. Children 10 and under get in free.

AUGUST 30
Theresa “Tess” Jackson, Democratic Candidate for WV House of Delegates, will be holding a campaign kick off event from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hurricane City Park.

AUGUST 31
There will be a paranomal discussion group discussing Gray Barker, West Virginia UFOlogist, at 6 p.m. at the St. Albans Historical Society, 404 4th Avenue, St. Albans.

SEPTEMBER 1
There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Buffalo Church of the Nazarene. Walk-ins are welcome.

SEPTEMBER 2
There will be a free tire collection day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at West Virginia Cashin Recyclables, 1 Pickens Road, Nitro.

SEPTEMBER 3
RetroFest will be coming to the City Center at Slack Plaza along Summers Street in Charleston from 6 to 10 p.m.. For more information, go to http://retrofestwv.com

STARTING SEPTEMBER 7
The Winfield Nazarene Church, 10822 Winfield Road, will be presenting “The Quest – Pointing Families Towards Jesus” on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Classes for adults, teens, and children K-5th grade.

SEPTEMBER 9 – NOVEMBER 5

The Friends of Old-Time Music and Dance of the Kanawha Valley will be hosting a community dance with a live band rom 7 to 10 p.m. at St. Timothy’s In-the-Valley Church on Teays Valley Road In Hurricane.Featuring traditional dances, including contras (double lines), squares and circles.
There will be a foam dance party for children 1-6 years of age at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and a party for children ages 7-14 from 8 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $8 per child. For more information, call (681) 235-2603.
