V. JUNE CARPER
Violetta June Carper, 91, of Nitro, passed away on October 12, 2022 at Teays Valley Center, Hurricane.
She was born on March 26, 1931 to the late Hurst and Tressie D. Young Simmons in Roane County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Carper and son, Gordon Carper.
June was a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church and previously worked at Ben Franklin.
She is survived by her loving family, son and daughter in-law: Stanley and Sandy Carper of Winfield; grandson: Stanley Carper Jr. (Whitney), and grandchildren: Cooper and Elliott, all of Simpsonville, SC.
Funeral Service for June was Monday October 17, 2022 at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with Rev. Dr. John D. Smith and Pastor Chad Estep officiating. Burial was in Amma Cemetery, Amma.

PHILIP EDWARD DAVIS
Philip Edward Davis, 65, of Hurricane, passed away on October 9, 2022, at Pikeville Medical Center, Kentucky after complications of surgery.
Ed was born on April 3, 1957 in Putnam County to the late James Garland and Alma Mae Davis. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Brenda Davis; brothers, James “Van” Davis, James “Jim” Davis, Alvin Davis, William “Bill” Davis, Garland “Chuck” Davis; and sister, Madeline Handley.
Ed retired with over 40 years’ service of the City of Hurricane Water Department. He had many talents and traits throughout his lifetime, from building his own home to fixing just about anything that was put in front of him. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching westerns, tending to his horse “Shadow”, donkey “Henry”, and dog “Hershey”, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his 2 daughters, Amy McClure (Timmy) and Lori Matthews (Bobby); brothers, Paul Davis and Timmy Davis; sisters, Eloise Vangilder, Dorothy Berry, Patty Thacker, Linda Dustin, Judy Sowards and Julie Neal; grandchildren, Karrie Hensley (Codey Harrison), Kristen Hensley (Dustin Snyder), Kaitlyn Davis (Michael Akers), Phillip McClure (Elsie Hensley), Jacob Matthews and Halei Matthews; great grandchildren, Madison Call, Owen McClure, Aubrey Akers, Karson Harrison and Carter Harrison; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service was Friday, October 14, 2022 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Roger Ross officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

RUBY KNIGHTSTEP MORRISON
Ruby Lee Knightstep Morrison, 96, of Lexington KY, formerly of Dunbar, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at her home with her family by her side. Ruby graduated from Point Pleasant High School, Class of 1945. She completed her college degree in Education from West Virginia State College and her Masters Degree from West Virginia University. Ruby taught elementary school in the Kanawha County School System for over 40 years. She continued to substitute teach after retirement. Ruby was an active member of Humphreys Memorial United Methodist Church in Dunbar. She attended First United Methodist Church in Lexington, KY where she assisted with the Backpack program.
Born June 10, 1926 in Leon, she was one of eight children born to the late Charles R. Knightstep and Lizzie Peck Knightstep. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy Knightstep, Joseph “Jack” Knightstep, Charles R. “Red” Knightstep Jr. and Homer Knightstep; sisters, Mary Knightstep and Opal Haught.
She is survived by her husband, Carl F. Morrison; daughter and son-in-law, Carla (John) Kimmons of Lexington KY; grandsons, Chris (Lisa) Kimmons of Johnson City TN, Reverend Doctor Matthew (Jennifer) Kimmons of Lexington KY; great-grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Kimmons, Elliott Grace Kimmons, Wesley Drew Kimmons and Daniel Morrison Kimmons; brother Albert (Sharon) Knightstep of Columbus OH. Ruby is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was Friday, October 14, 2022 at Leon Cemetery, Leon.

DANA STEVEN YOUNG
Dana Steven Young, 59, of Scott Depot, passed away on October 13, 2022.
He was born on October 3, 1963 to the late Victor and Doris Young.
Dana was a manager for GoMart for many years.
He is survived by his fiancée, Melissa Farmer of Scott Depot; children, Chyanne Farmer (Austin Anderson) and Madison Farmer; grandchildren, Braylee Anderson and Braxton Farmer; brothers, Michael Young (Cathy) of Barboursville and Scott Young (Jani) of Altus, OK; nephew, Justin Young (Daana) and their children, Mason and Kloe; nieces, Amy Carter and her children, Benjamin Carter and Caleb Carter, Heather Jones (Jeffrey), Kristi Young and her son, Dakota, and Shannon Anderson (Wil), and their children Ethan and Mattilyn; cousins Roy Lee Warren, Carmen Johnson, Valerie Gabeheart and Jay Wymer; and many other extended family and friends.
Funeral Service will be Friday at 11:00 am, October 21, 2022 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with Pastor James Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
