Mayor Scott Edwards presented Savannah Hawkins with a Certificate of Recognition at the Hurricane City Council meeting on January 3rd. Savannah, a junior at Hurricane High School, is the WV Girls High School Golf State Champion. She won the title by setting a tournament record with a 4 under par, 68, at the Mingo Bottom Golf Club in September.

She was also the runner-up at the WV High School Golf State Championship (coed event) which was at the Oglebay Jones Course in Wheeling on October 4-5, 2022.

Additionally, she was the Low Medalist at the 2022 Mountain State Athletic Conference Championship, shooting a 6 under par 66 and was named the MSAC Player of the Year.
