FRANCES ADAMS
Frances Handley Blake Adams, 99, of Atlantic Beach, FL, formerly of Culloden and Hurricane, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, 111 days prior to her 100th birthday. She died after a short illness at Baptist Medical Center-Beaches in Jacksonville Beach, FL.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Hurricane at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at the Culloden Cemetery in Culloden. Allen Funeral Home in Hurricane will be assisting the family. Reverend Ronald Stoner will be officiating.
Frances was born on August 25, 1923, in Culloden, the first of 6 children born to Earl Handley and Grace White Handley of Culloden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James W. Blake, of Culloden, her second husband, C.E. (Bus) Adams, of Hurricane, son Larry James Blake of Daniel Island, SC, and brothers Clyde Handley, Earl Dennis Handley, and Jack Handley.
Survivors include brother Carl Handley, of Hurricane, sister Barbara Handley Chaney, of Culloden, sister-in-law Mary Jane Handley, of Culloden, daughters Nancy Blake Wahlke, of Atlantic Beach, FL, and Gail Blake Benford (Lee) of Ravenswood, WV, daughter-in-law Melinda Stone Blake, of Daniel Island, SC, sons Dale Blake (Sharon) of Roanoke, VA and Jeffrey Blake (Donna) of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Eleven grandchildren: Sarah Wahlke Shepherd, Margot Wahlke Sala (Dario), Lydia Wahlke (Andrew Johnstone), Stephanie Blake Stanley (Chris), Shellie Blake Behling (Jimmy), Larry Blake II (Allison), Betsy Blake Day (David), Jason Blake (Carie), Katie Benford Hannon (Michael), Adam Benford, and Andrew Benford (Ashley). Twenty great- grandchildren: Alexandra Sala, Valentina Sala, Francesca Sala, J. William Shepherd, Grant Shepherd, Meghan Stanley Wollman (Billy), Joshua Stanley (Carrie Grace), Hunter Behling, Tanner Behling, Jordan Behling, Lawson Blake, Carolina Blake, Walker Blake, Macey Blake, Hayden Day, Brady Day, Dylan Blake, Cameran Blake, Tinley Pursley-Benford, and Eva Benford. A final blessing was the birth of her first great-great grandchild, Brady Stanley. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Frances lived most of her life in Culloden and Hurricane. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane and participated in their Sew and Grow Circle. She was a member of The Eastern Star, Parents Without Partners, a Board Member of the Culloden Cemetery Improvement Committee, and a Charter Member of the Culloden Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed for many years at the Blake Insurance Agency, working with both her husband, Jim, and her son, Dale. She also worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways. She loved making quilts and made many beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. Through the years, she supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by attending their academic, athletic and performing arts events.
After the death of her second husband, Bus, she spent the next 13 years living 2-3 months with each of her children in Jacksonville, FL, Mt. Pleasant, SC, Roanoke, VA, and Ravenswood, WV. During the last nine months, she lived at Anthem Lakes Senior Living in Atlantic Beach, FL.

DAVID LEE BEACH
David Lee Beach, 46, of Hurricane, passed away on May 8, 2023.
He was born April 22, 1977 to Terry Beach and the late Sharon Beach.
David was a 1996 Graduate of Hurricane High School. He enjoyed hanging out with friends, fishing, hunting, and playing handicapped basketball.
In addition to his father David is survived by his step-mother in which he called “Mawmaw” Sandy Beach; girlfriend: Billie Black and her daughter and David’s caregiver, Kristi Sowards; brothers: Adam Beach (Heather McClure) and Jason Hall (Shauna); 4 nephews: Gavin Beach, Haiden Beach, Corbin McClure and Dylan Hall.

GLENN DONEFF
Carmen Glenn Doneff, 83, of Hurricane, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 after a short illness in St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was retired from WV Department of Highways Interstate Division and enjoyed farming after retirement and loved spending time with his grandson.
He is survived by his wife Vida Doneff and Daughter Crissy (Paul) Taylor, 3 grandchildren Nik Taylor, Jamie Taylor and Michael Taylor and one brother Thomas Doneff all of Hurricane.
Funeral was Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Allen Funeral Home. Burial was in Doneff Cemetery.

ZACHARY D. FITZSIMMONS
Zachary Daniel Fitzsimmons, 27, of Hurricane, lost his battle with life’s challenges on May 8, 2023. He was born June 6, 1995, to Dan and Kay Fitzsimmons of Hurricane.
Zackary was a graduate of Hurricane High School and was active in sports, playing football, baseball, and basketball. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and art. Zachary will always be remembered as the guy with the quick smile, a kind soul, and a big heart, He was loved deeply by many.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Herman Koerber, aunt Pam Shreves, and cousin John Michael Fitzsimmons.
Along with his parents he is also survived by his grandparents, Lee and Barb Fitzsimmons; grandmother, Wanda Koerber; Aunt, Lisa Fitzsimmons; Uncles, Mike Fitzsimmons and Scott Fitzsimmons; Godparents, Aunts and Uncles, Eddie and Beth Ann Heinzman, Jeff and Vickie Koerber, Rick and Cindy Koerber, Ted and Darlene Koerber, Mitch and Tammy Koerber, Bill and Marcle Cline; Cousins, Hannah, Hilary, Bobby, Andrew, Sarah, Bennett, Matt, Brian, Jonas, Emily, Meredith, Lauren, Alayna, Lucas, Jake and friends.
Rite of burial mass was held Monday, May 15, 2023 at Mater Delorosa Catholic Church, Paden City. Burial wase in Paden Gardens, Paden City.

RONNIE D. HERDMAN
Ronnie D. Herdman, 61, of Leon, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He was a 1980 graduate of Buffalo High School and was a Christian. He worked for over 18 years at South Charleston Stamping and Manufacturing and served as union president for the local U.A.W. He was the owner of R and J Upholstery. Ronnie enjoyed working with upholstery and taught upholstery for Kanawha County Schools. He was a former employee of Workforce West Virginia and was a member of Kanawha Valley Lodge No. 36 A.F & A.M. in Buffalo. He had a very kind spirit and never met a stranger. Ronnie loved his grandchildren and deeply enjoyed the time he got to spend with them.
Born October 3rd, 1961, he was the son of the late Lester Jeffers and Loetta Faye Jeffers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Tucker, Oliver “Popeye” Herdman and Lester Eugene Herdman; father- in- law, Charles Whittington and mother-in-law, Joyce Whittington.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Julie Whittington Herdman; sons, R.D. (Nikki) Herdman of Leon and Ryan Herdman of Leon; grandchildren, Lola Marie Herdman and Everett Wayne Herdman; sisters, Linda Cantrell of Buffalo, Jeanie Miller of Buffalo and Kathy (“Binky”) Pauley of Marion OH; brothers, Rev. Kenneth “Bob” (Carmen) Herdman of Dayton OH, Bill (Carla) Herdman of Robertsburg; twin brother, Donnie (Lisa) Herdman of Robertsburg and Tim Jeffers of Leon; sister-in-law, Lisa (Richard) Roe; brother-in-law, Chuck (David Katz) Whittington; special nieces, Kris Park and Michele Luyster; his special K-9 companion, Shelby. Ronnie is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Funeral service was Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.

NANCY L. JIVIDEN
Nancy L. Jividen, 82, of Leon, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at her home following a short illness. She was a lifelong homemaker who loved God and her family dearly. Nancy was a longtime member Manilla Chapel Church and attended Oma Chapel Church.
Born December 15, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Foster Tucker and Bertha “Base” Tucker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dwayne Owens Jividen; siblings, Paul Tucker, Lola Bell “Sissy” Doss, Wilma “Squeak” Higginbotham, Beula “Bootie” Oldaker, Ethyle “Tuddles” Higginbotham, Jimmy Tucker, Kenny Tucker, Odie Tucker, Eddie Tucker and Ron Tucker.
Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Gilbert O. Jividen; daughters, Brenda Gail Jividen and Tammy (“Tiny”) Jordan; grandchildren, Danny O. Tucker, Nathan (Brittany) Jordan, Malinda Frankenbery, Cassy Hunter, Robert Allen Jordan III; great grandchildren, Brieanne (Jake) Harris, Harleigh Casto, Haleigh Casto, Dakota Frankenbery, Evelyn Hunter, Jordan Hunter and Zackary Hunter; great grandchild, Lilah Mae McFann; sibilings, Bobby Tucker, Johnny Tucker, Sherry (Darrell) Knapp, Vickie Mackling, Sandy (Kenneth) Lowe, Roger Tucker, Lynn Lumberson, Paula Lumberson, Bonnie Potter and Don Tucker; sister in law, Danette Tucker. Nancy is also survived by her special friend, Janet Craig, several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Funeral service was Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Rev. Randy Parsons and Pastor Carl Bailes officiating. Burial was in Manilla Chapel Cemetery, Robertsburg.

Barbara Jean Kennedy
Barbara Jean Kennedy, 84, of Hurricane, died peacefully on May 10, 2023 surrounded by family.
She is survived by her loving husband Darele, devoted children Deanna Bradley (James) and Michael Kennedy (Sherry), and beloved grandchildren Keri Kennedy (Caleb), Eric Kennedy, and Taylor Bradley.
Barbara was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Hurricane, West Virginia.
Her gentle wisdom expressed in words of encouragement, love of family and friends (especially children), and sustaining faith will continue to inspire.
Funeral service was Saturday, May 13, 2023 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Ashland KY, with Rev. Jacque Compton and Rev. Deanna Bradley officiating. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery with James Bradley, Taylor Bradley, C.J. Hinkle, Caleb Kennedy, Eric Kennedy, and David Ratliff serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Kyle McCoy.

Julia LeRoy
Julia Vorholt LeRoy, 86, of Hurricane, passed away May 8, 2023 surrounded by her family after a long illness.
Julia was born July, 14, 1935 to the late George and Marjorie Vorholt. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Gene Boyce LeRoy, and brothers: George Douglas Vorholt and Allen Richard Vorholt.
She was a 1953 graduate of Charleston High School and enjoyed going to her high school reunions for years with her brother George and sister-in-law Helen. Julia lived and raised her children on Ravinia Road in Charleston. Spent her final 45 plus years in the Teays Valley area. Julia was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane, Kanawha Eastern Star, and the American Baptist Women’s ministries where she served as Treasurer. She also always enjoyed events with the VIP’S, studying the Bible with the Hurricane Ladies Bible Studies group, Bykota Sunday School class and all her friends she cherished.
Julia was a State Champion in Bowling, and an avid bridge player. She spent many hours enjoying playing with her friend and bridge partner Georgette. She was always in attendance at her grandchildren’s many sporting events and her hot dog sauce became well known at the baseball field. She was happiest when taking care of and spending time with her family and traveling.
She is survived by her daughters: Sharon Lansdale (Steven Engelhardt) of Winfield, Kim Mack (Tom) of Hurricane, and Sheila Borst of Pittsburgh, PA, grandchildren: Lissa Gonzalez (Joe) of Hurricane, Christine Westfall (Josh) of Winfield, Nathan Mack (Kathryn) of Oregon City, OR, Brittany Klinestiver (Bobby) of Milton, Jordan Borst of Pittsburgh, PA, and Ben Borst of Phoenix, AZ, great-grandchildren: Kaylee Mack, Guy Mack, Lily Mack, Jace Westfall, Juliana Westfall, Judson Westfall, Ethan Gonzalez, Caleb Gonzalez, and Micah Klinestiver.
Julia is missed by her family and friends who have peace knowing she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with her husband, brothers, parents and many other family members.
Funeral service was Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Hurricane.

Vallery Massey
Vallery Jo Massey, age 67, of Hurricane, passed away Friday May 12, 2023 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston.
She was born April 9,1956 to Eugene and Mary Van Bibber. She is preceded in death by her father Eugene VanBibber, her loving husband of 42 years Damon Massey and one son Chester James Massey.
Surviving is her mother, Mary VanBibber, one son Ashley Grant Massey (Ashley Nicole) of Milton. One daughter, Hope Massey of Hurricane, two brothers Greg VanBibber of Ohio and Randall VanBibber (Kelly) of Nitro; two grandchildren Colton Massey and Michael Massey both of Milton and one bonus granddaughter Gracie Johnson.
Vallery was the most selfless person, giving unconditional love, prayer, and guidance to her family and friends. She was an amazing mother and grandmother, always willing to give of what she had to help others in need. She was a loyal servant of Jesus Christ faithful serving as a member of the praise team for several years. She was endearing to all those around her and cherished dearly by her family and friends. Our lives are much richer for loving her and being loved by her.
Funeral Service was Wednesday May 17, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Deacon Montie Johnson officiating.

Barbara Ann McCormick
Barbara Ann “Barb” (Daubenmire) McCormick, 77, of Scott Depot, passed away May 9th, 2023 at Putnam Center in Hurricane after a long hard-fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert C. (Bob) Daubenmire and Catherine Ann (Fletcher) Weinheimer, brother Edward Leo “Ed” Daubenmire, daughter-in-law Cheryl Christy-McCormick, and her beloved and loving husband of 50 years, John F. “Buz” McCormick.
Barb was born in 1946, in Redwood City, California. She received her undergraduate degree from West Virginia State College (WVSC) along with a Masters from WVSC in Psychology and a Masters in Religious Studies from Wheeling Jesuit University. She worked for CAMC’s Adolescent Care Unit, was active in the recovery community, and for many years was an adjunct professor at both WVSC and Wheeling Jesuit. Barb also served on multiple boards throughout the Kanawha Valley, including Children’s Home Society of West Virginia, and was a doting foster mom to numerous children in need. As devoted Catholics, she and Buz were parishioners at Blessed Sacrament in South Charleston and Ascension Catholic Church in Hurricane. She loved music and played the guitar and piano for many years. She loved animals of all kinds and most recently she and Buz had taken in and cared for rescue horses.
She leaves behind sons Andy McCormick of Rock Hill, SC; Tim McCormick of St. Albans, and daughter, Amy Marie McCormick-Friesz (Daniel) of Astoria, OR; siblings, Carolyn (Daubenmire) Sanchez (Tino) of Roseville, CA; Robert J. “Bob” Daubenmire (Jen Billeci) of Woodland, CA; Jeff Daubenmire of Seattle, WA; Greg Daubenmire (Nancy) of Dublin, CA; Marie (Daubenmire) Cape (Randy) of Roseville, CA; and Michael Daubenmire (Tracie McArdle) of Roseville, CA; grandchildren, Donald W. Christy (Mary) of Rock Hill, SC; Makalya R. McCormick, of Conway, SC; Emily Frances McCormick (Micheal Facemire), of St. Albans, Christian Robert McCormick of Charleston, and Nathan Charles Friesz of Vancouver, WA; great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Declan Christy of Rock Hill, SC, along with many nieces and nephews and Buz’s siblings, Joseph F. McCormick, Jr. (Barbara Longnecker), of Isle of Palms, SC and Thomas G. McCormick (Linda) of Fripp Island, SC.
Funeral service was held at Blessed Sacrament Church in South Charleston on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Douglas Alan McDaniel
Douglas A. McDaniel, 54, of Winfield, passed peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, May 5th, 2023, following a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.
He is preceded in death by his father, William M. McDaniel of West Virginia and his father-in-law, Dennis J. Simmons Jr. of North Carolina.
Doug is survived by his wife of 28 years, Denise L. McDaniel, a daughter Vanessa McDaniel-Caulder and her husband SGT Joshua R. Caulder, and a son SGT Nolan D. McDaniel. Doug is also survived by one grandson, Noah Douglas Scott Caulder, whom Doug referred to as “Pawpaw’s little angel,” son of Vanessa and Joshua Caulder.
He will be sorrowfully missed by his surviving mother, Elaine White-McDaniel, and his siblings: Theresa L. McDaniel, William M. McDaniel II and family, Steven F. McDaniel and family, and Deborah A. McDaniel along with several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, all of whom he greatly loved.

Thomas Orrison
Thomas “Tom” Edward Orrison, 65, of Winfield, went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2023. He fought a courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Tom was born on November 23, 1957 to the late William E. and Sue Orrison in Evansville, Indiana. He was a 1975 graduate of Winfield High School, attended West Virginia University and Marshall University. He spent his career as a salesman for McJunkin Corporation (MRC Global) and retired in 2020. He was a member of Winfield United Methodist Church.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Debbie Orrison of Winfield; daughter: Sarah Beakes (Ben) of Cross Lanes; son: Drew Orrison (Jessica) of Charleston and his pride and joy, his grandchildren: Chloe and Cooper Beakes of Cross Lanes. In addition, he is survived by his father and mother-in-law: Mike and Mary Lou Albert of St. Albans and sister-in-law: Angela Potter of St. Albans.
Tom was known throughout the community for his “larger than life” personality and never met a stranger. He was known as one of the “good guys” and was held in high regard with his co-workers and friends. Tom loved his family fiercely and, with his wife Debbie, created a beautiful life and legacy.
Funeral Service for Tom will be 2:00pm Saturday May 20, 2023 at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with Rev. Ed Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Winfield Cemetery Winfield.

Melva Imogene Staton
Melva Imogene Staton, 82, of Winfield, passed away on May 11, 2023.
She was born on May 30, 1940, to the late Jesse W. Roach and Carrie A. Roach.
Melva was a custodian for Putnam County Schools with over 30 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Clayton Staton, and 9 siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Diana Barefoot (Eugene), Robert Staton (Brittany), and Dallas Staton (Rosemary); sister, Ivalee Shafer; and 7 grandchildren.
Funeral service for Melva was Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Jim Dennis officiating.Burial was in Heaven’s Gateway in Winfield.
