Community Calendar for Week of August 31

SATURDAYS THROUGH OCTOBER 28
The Putnam County Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field beside Exxon/Arby’s on Route 34 in Teays Valley.

AUGUST 31
The Board Room in Hurricane (located behind Walmart) will be holding Board Games Night from 6 to 9 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 2
The GWES Music Department Vendor Fair Fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eleanor Volunteer Fire Department.
Rock out at Swan Lake Campground, 13928 Charleston Road, Red House, with the Marshall River Band starting at 6 p.m.
The Winfield High School Class of ‘83 40th Reunion will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at Fireside Grille in Teays Valley. Reservations are $25.

SEPTEMBER 3
The annual St. Albans – Nitro Labor Day Fireworks will start at 9:30 p.m. The bridge will be closed for the best viewing experience.

SEPTEMBER 5
There will be story time at the Poca and Eleanor Libraries at 10 a.m.
Tim Sayre with Putnam County WVU Extension will present a canning class at Valley Park Wave Pool in the kitchen at 5 p.m.
There will be stand up paddleboarding lessons from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Hurricane reservoir. The cost is $29; arrive by 6:30 p.m. For more information, text 304-610-8999.

SEPTEMBER 6
There will be a Betty and Dot Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. at the Nitro Public Library.
There will be story time at 10 a.m. at the Putnam County Main Library.
There will be a computer basics class at 11 a.m. at the Putnam County Main Library.

SEPTEMBER 7
There will be story time at 10 a.m. at the Buffalo, Hurricane, and Main Putnam County Libraries.
A book club will meet at the Buffalo Library at 5 p.m.
There will be stand up paddleboarding lessons from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Ridenour Lake in Nitro. The cost is $29; arrive by 6:30 p.m. For more information, text 304-610-8999.
There will be a Meet & Greet to learn more about American Heritage Girls and Troop WV1119 at 6 p.m. at Heizer Creek Community Church, 6580 Heizer Creek, Poca.
A book club will meet at the Hurricane Library at 5:30 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 8
The Hurricane First Church of God, 3225 East Putnam Avenue, will be holding their monthly Second Friday Gospel Sing starting at 7 p.m.
There will be a foam dance party for children ages 7-14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $10 per child.

SEPTEMBER 9 – 10

SEPTEMBER 9
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2008 20th Street, Nitro, will be holding an Italian feast from 4 to 6 p.m. The cost per meal is $10 and proceeds benefit the Nitro Mission Team Christmas basket initiative.
The City of Nitro Boomtown Days Festival will be held in Nitro.
The Nitro Antique Car Club will be hosting a car show at the Living Memorial Park, 21st Street and 2nd Avenue, Nitro. Registration starts at 9 a.m.
The 10th Annual Ride for Jesus will be held at the Iron Horse Church, 120 Blackwood Avenue, Nitro. Cars and trucks welcome.
Code Grey: Finding Calm in the Chaos, a workshop on stress and first responders, will be held at noon at the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department.
The Winfield Nazarene Church, 10822 Winfield Road, will be holding a food pantry from 9 a.m. to noon.
There will be an outdoor sing at 4 p.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church, 93 Kilgore Creek Road, Milton featuring the Jay Humphrey Trio and Corey Clark.
“The Wizard of Oz” will be showing at the Putnam County Main Library at 10 a.m.
The Hurricane 100k Trail Run and Relay Presented by the Dumont Tri-County YMCA will start at 6 a.m. at the Hurricane City Park’s Meeks Mountain Trails. To register, go to https://www.meeksmountain trails.org/hurricanehundred
There will be an immersive nature hike with Andy McKee at the Meeks Mountain Trails at the Hurricane City Park. Meet up at the big red barn.
