SANDRA FAYE ADKINS
Sandra Faye Whittington Adkins, 80, of Teays Valley, passed away December 30, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Opal Johnson Whittington, husband, James Moses Adkins, children, Jim Adkins, and Natchie Adkins, great granddaughter, Ellie Terry, and sister, Violet Miles.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Chelsey Terry, of Teays Valley, great grandchildren, McKenna Terry and Marshall Terry, brothers, Leonard and Kenneth Whittington.
Celebration of Sandra’s life was held Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Rev. Melissa Pratt officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
TIMOTHY J. COCHRAN
Timothy J. Cochran, 62, of Leon, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was a graduate of Buffalo High School and retired from Putnam County Schools.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Lee Cochran and his siblings; Anita Cochran, Jackie Cochran and Patsy Kraft.
He is survived by his loving mother, Clara Mildred Cochran and sister, Judy Johnson.
Funeral Service was Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Rev. Randy Parsons officiating. Burial was in Manilla Chapel Cemetery, Robertsburg.
BEATTIE LEE DEBORD
Beattie Lee DeBord, 82, of Winfield, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at his home.
Born March 31, 1941 in Welch, a son of the late Walter and Grace DeBord. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Kitty.
Beattie thoroughly enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his furbabies. He was a member of Nitro Masonic Lodge #170 AF & AM, a 33rd Degree Freemason, a member of Valley of Charleston Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies.
Surviving are his sons: Stephen Beattie DeBord (Lisa) of Winfield and Timothy Roy DeBord (Jennifer) of Red House; grandchildren: Stephen Chandler DeBord, Chase and Colton Jeffries, Joshua Andrew DeBord (Baley), Brooke Elizabeth DeBord (Tevin), Mallory and Tyler; great-grandchildren: Willow Rae White and Remi Swae Thomas; brothers in law: Robert Edward “Eddie” Wallace of Roanoke, VA, and Stephen Rodney “Steve” Wallace (Judy) of Lewes, DE.
There will be no service at the present time.
LINDA J. SCHROEDER
Linda J. (McCray) Schroeder, 74, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was a 1966 graduate of Buffalo High School and a graduate of Marshall University.
Born January 23, 1949, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Herbert McCray and Fayanna Yates McCray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Eberhard “Bud” Schroeder.
Survivors include her daughters Andrea Martin (Brian Knaple) of Lancaster PA and Laura Schroeder of Aspen CO; brother, Pat (Lois) McCray of Buffalo; grandchildren, Aidan Martin and Kiera Martin.
A private family service will be held on Saturday January 20, 2024, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Memorial Park, Buffalo.
VERNON TAYLOR
Vernon Edward Taylor, 80, of Scott Depot, departed this life on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
He was born on March 3rd, 1943 in Roane County, West Virginia to the late Hubert and Tressie Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Taylor.
Vernon was a retired engineer with Union Carbide where he worked for thirty-six years. He was a Sergeant and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Vernon was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of St. Albans for over four decades where he served on the Board of Trustees.
Surviving is his loving wife of 42 years, Teresa Taylor of Scott Depot; daughter, Katie Ethridge and her husband Scott, of Hurricane; son, Wade Taylor and his wife Melissa, of Dunbar; sister, Bernice Boggess of Dunbar; grandchildren, Tori and Logan Taylor and Ava and Sophie Ethridge; close relatives Larry and Jenny Ellis of St. Albans, and Rhett and Lisa Seel of Harrisburg, North Carolina; and many other extended family and friends.
An avid outdoorsman his entire life, Vernon loved hunting and fishing locally and abroad. A love for the outdoors is something he instilled in his children and grandchildren as well. Vernon’s love of his family and friends was evident in the way he enjoyed family gatherings and vacations, traveling with friends, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
A memorial service was held Thursday, January 11, 2024, at First Baptist Church of St. Albans, with Pastor Joel Harpold officiating.
David and Linda Walter
David A. Walter, 78, of Hurricane, left this world to be in the loving arms of Jesus on January 10, 2024.
Linda D. Walter, 76, of Hurricane, followed her loving and devoted husband through the Pearly Gates of Heaven on January 11, 2024.
Originally from Nitro, David attended Nitro High School, while Linda grew up in St. Albans and attended St. Albans High School. Theirs was a love story that lasted 41 years. She was a single Mother of three, and he was a single father of 2. It was love at first sight, and after a whirlwind 3-week romance, they married in Pearisburg, WV on March 20, 1982
David and Linda were preceded in death by there parents, and son Adam W. Summers. They are survived by children Tina Bledsoe (Larry), Daniel Summers (Kathi), Chester Walter and Tina McDaniel, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A combined Funeral service was held Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Claude Spurlock officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.
