ADALINE CHRISTINE BORT
Adaline Bort, 76, of Poca, passed away February 4, 2024 at home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years Tom Bort; brothers: Bud, Kenny, Billy, Buster, Butch and Roy; sisters: Vina, Winnie, Ramona, Shirley, Liz, and Linda; a grandson, Thomas Lee; and one great grandson, Silas Harless.
Adaline is survived by her children: John Ray Lowe, Roy (Veronica) Lowe, and Theresa (George) Taylor; 23 Grand Children; 23 Great Grandchildren; and her brother, Doug.
There will be no public services at this time.

BILLY BRISCOE
Billy Briscoe, 38, of Scott Depot, passed away February 6, 2024.
Billy is a graduate of Winfield High School, former employee of Better Foods and former member of the Putnam County 4-H.
He is survived by his two sons Dylan and Jamison Briscoe; parents Richard and Lydia Briscoe; and two sisters Valerie Boardman and April Briscoe.
A tribute to the life of Billy will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

BROOKE CARNEFIX
KODA BRYSON JARRETT
Brooke Carnefix, age 39, and her son, Koda Jarrett, age 14, of St. Albans, passed away together on February 7, 2024 at their home.
Brooke graduated from Winfield High School in 2002, then worked hard to become a proud Respiratory Therapist. She started working for CAMC and was currently working at Select Specialty in Charleston. She loved to sing, use her Healing Hands, be a Ray of Sunshine and be around her family, especially her dog, Choco.
Koda was in the 8th grade at Winfield Middle School, where he enjoyed being in Chorus and the Winfield Middle School Band. He loved gaming with his friends and being with family.
They are survived by Timothy D. and Beth Nelson Carnefix of Winfield (parents of Brooke and grandparents of Koda); Shelby J. Frazier (sister of Koda and daughter of Brooke); Tiffany Owens of Cross Lanes (aunt to Koda and sister of Brooke); Cameron (Lindsey) Blankenship (brother of Brooke and uncle of Koda); Willow Blankenship (daughter of Cameron and Lindsey); Brooke’s brother: Brandon (Jessica) Carnefix and their children: Cooper and Charlotte of Teays Valley; Koda’s brother: Dallas “Little D” Jarrett III of Red House and Koda’s sister: Avalee Duffield of Buffalo; and their special friends: DeVonte and Lyric McIyter of Detroit, MI; Koda’s father: Dallas Jarrett II; and many other family members and friends.
Brooke and Koda were preceded in death by: Roy and Nancy Carnefix and John and Nancy Nelson.
Funeral service for Koda and Brooke was Monday, February 12, 2024 at Valley Park Conference Center, Hurricane.

PHYLLIS JUANITA CONNERY
Heaven gained an angel, Phyllis Juanita Connery, 98, of St. Albans, passed away on February 5, 2024 at Teays Valley Center, Hurricane, surrounded by her family.
She was born to the late Delmer O. and Flossie M. Brightwell Lacy on December 25, 1925 in St. Albans. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Dewey J. Connery; daughter: Sue Pauley; and son in-law: Dan VanCamp.
Phyllis had previously worked at C&P Telephone and lastly retired from Riverside Nursing Home.
Phyllis is survived by her loving family, her daughter: Donna J. VanCamp of Hurricane; grandson: Chris (Keri) Pauley; great grandchildren: Kaylie, Emma and Nate Pauley all of Hurricane sisters: Betty Connery of St. Albans and Patricia Seldomridge of NC; brothers: Alfred and Delmer Lacy both of St. Albans; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.
Funeral Service for Phyllis was Friday, February 9, 2024 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Jim Dennis officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Tornado.

Janice Lynn Edmonds
Janice Lynn Edmonds, 54, of Fraziers Bottom, passed away on February 4, 2024 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House Huntington surrounded by her family.
She was born on December 9, 1969 to Charlie Edmonds and the late Marilyn Sue Grant Edmonds.
Janice was formerly a bus driver with Putnam County Board of Education.
She is survived by her loving family, her husband: Julio Guzman-Viveros; daughter: Alexandra (Devin) Weis of Huntington; grandchildren: Landon and Grayson Weis; father: Charlie Edmonds; and sisters: Marilyn Susie Edmonds of Milton and Kathryn Miller of Pensacola, FL; as well several other family members.
Graveside Service for Janice was at Pine Grove Cemetery, Pliny.

Angela Edwards
Angela Dawn Edwards, born November 28, 1971, passed away February 9, 2024 after a short battle with cancer at Hubbard Hospice House West.
Angie was a devoted mother to Brittany Edwards and Brandi McDaniel (Courtland). She loved her three grandbabies, Jace, Kinsleigh and Willow by a bushel and a peck. Angie was Nanny to JD Ramsey and, Courtney and Madison Mike. Also surviving are her two sisters Sherry (Joe) Sergent and Rachel Edwards (Mark). She was loved by all and will be missed.
Funeral service was Wednesday, February 14, 2024 with Elder Tony Edwards officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Kenneth Clinton Flowers
Kenneth Clinton Flowers, 86, of Scott Depot, joined his loving wife of 64 years, Pardy, on Sunday morning, February 4, 2024.
Kenneth retired from Rite Aid as a truck driver. He was a great outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and spending his time reminiscing about history.
Kenneth is survived by his special friend, who was like a son to him, Jonathan (J.T.), wife, Missy and daughter, Kaibrea Tyler; sister, Alice Evon (Willie) Smith; nieces, Kay Pennington & family, Kerry Lea & family; nephews, Kenny Farley & family, Frankie Farley.
Funeral service was Monday, February 12, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor David Moutz officiating. Burial was in Tudor Cemetery, South Charleston.

Roger Guest
Roger Keith Guest of Cross Lanes was born December 16, 1952, in Dallas, Texas. He went to his Heavenly Home on February 3, 2024, with his wife Carolyn and fur-baby Tessa by his side. Roger was only 71 years of age.
Roger is survived by his wife, life and business partner, and the love of his life Carolyn James of the home, his devoted blue heeler Tessa, his brother Noel “Robbie” Guest of Texas, his sons Justin Guest, Nathan Guest and Derek Guest of Texas, His chosen sisters Angela Franko and Linda Katherine Franko of Texas and extended family members and loyal friends.
Roger was predeceased in death by his father Everett Guest and mother Wilma Guest Ring.
Roger was a graduate of WW Samuel High School. He studied at the School of Trial and Error where he excelled in Life’s Lessons. He embodied the best qualities of unconditional love, strength of spirit, unending generosity, and the gift of gab. He never knew a stranger.
Roger spent his life working in the transportation industry. He started his career as a dock worker and driver. Never satisfied with the status quo, he was constantly learning from those around him until he eventually started his own brokerage. He retired in 2022, only to be right back at his desk the next day.
Never one to sit still, Roger loved country dancing, horseback riding, square dancing on horseback, jet-skiing, and kayaking. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved a good party. Oh, the stories that could be told, both by him and on him.
Roger was active at St. Timothy-in-the-Valley Episcopal church where he served as Junior Warden. He was one of the founding members of Neighbors Feeding Neighbors, a non-profit food program hosted by St. Timothy’s in-the-Valley.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held on Saturday March 2nd at St. Timothy’s in-the-Valley Episcopal Church in Hurricane. Visitation will be 11:30 am – 12 pm with the service beginning at 12 pm. A devoted foodie, a reception in honor of Roger will follow the service.

William Anthony Moses
William Anthony Moses, 56, of Hurricane, passed away on February 5, 2024 at CAMC Teays Valley Center.
He was born to the late William O. Moses and Shirley M. Thevenin Gibson on June 13, 1967.
Anthony proudly served his country in the US Army and was a welder.
He is survived by his longtime companion: Kelly Rene Bays; daughters: Keisha (Timothy) Eggers of Jackson, OH, Alicia (Jamie) Johnson of Fort Mill, SC, and Kristen (H.E.) Mason of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren: Lillian, Logan, Adalyn, Jack, Alexander and Braxton; sisters: Dena Moses and Terri Murphy; brothers: Jeffrey and Kenneth Moses; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family members.
A Tribute to the Life of Anthony was held Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane.

Marvin Clinton Vititoe
Marvin Clinton Vititoe 82, of Hurricane, widower of Karen Sue Vititoe, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. He was born August 4, 1941 in St. Albans, a son of the late Eli and Hattie Johnson Vititoe.
Two sisters, three brothers and a grandchild also preceded him in death. He was a US Army veteran, and retired from the State of WV as an Aircraft Maintenance Inspector. He also pastored at Peach Ridge American Baptist Church on Hurricane Creek. Survivors include one son, Keith Vititoe of Charleston; one daughter and son-in-law, Loretta Lynn and Geoff Morrell of Rincon, GA; one sister and her spouse, Peggy and Paul Suttle of Ona; brother and his spouse Otis and Tanya Vititoe of Dunbar; 4 grandchildren, Billy Grass III, Briana Sicra, Jessica Miller and Samantha Vititoe; two great grandchildren, Parker Moore and Jackson Miller; and Special Friend Evelyn Jones of Steinhatchee, FL.
A celebration of Marvin’s life was held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Ona, with Pastor Nathan Jude officiating. Burial was in Peach Ridge Cemetery, Hurricane.
