CHARLES EDWARD ELSWICK SR.
Charles Edward Elswick Sr. 70, of Leon, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024 at CAMC Teays Valley. He worked in construction for many years and loved to work on cars.
Born December 26, 1953 he was the son of the late William Henry Elswick and Grace M. Slater Elswick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Elswick and William Elswick.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Clara Elswick; son, Charles Elswick (Crystal Underwood) of Barberton OH; daughters, Jane (Tom) Hickman of Leon and Amanda (Jaburs) Terry of Pt. Pleasant; brothers, James (Debra) Elswick of Missouri, Osdell (Teency) Elswick of Charleston, David (Rose) Elswick of Charleston and Mark Elswick of Leon; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral service was Thursday, March, 21, 2024 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Elmer Miller officiating. Burial was in Elswick Family Cemetery.

BERNA JOE HIGGINBOTHAM
Berna “Joe” Higginbotham, 80, of Grimms Landing, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Hospice House West at Thomas Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. “Joe” grew up in Buffalo and attended Buffalo High School. She worked for several years at the Stone & Thomas Warehouse. She later met the love of her life, Boyd Ferrell Higginbotham. They were married for 61 years and together they raised 6 wonderful children. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved spending time with her family and friends and being with them brought so much joy.
Born July 21, 1943 in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late William “Bill” Craig and Mary Oldaker Craig. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Regina “Jeannie” Marcum; brothers, Charles Craig, James Craig, Howard Craig, Cleon “Rusty” Craig, William “Page” Craig, Johnny Craig, and Roy Craig; sisters, Erma Craig, Iona “Midge” Grady, Lula Belle Stover, Elnora Hill, and Hazel Absten.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Boyd F. Higginbotham; her children, Boyd (Valerie) Higginbotham, Lloyd Higginbotham, Julie (Tony) Stutler, Chipper Higginbotham, and Kevin (Holly) Higginbotham; as well as 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
Funeral service was Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Randy Parsons officiating. Burial was in Morning Sunrise Cemetery, Grimms Landing.

JACK HULL
Jack Hull, 84, of Culloden, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 17, 2024, in Hubbard Hospice House West after a long illness. He was a U S Army Veteran Retired from Air Gas in Huntington, and he was a fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers. He was preceded in death by a son Matthew Shawn Hull
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Linda Leadmon Hull, daughter, Stephanie (Jim) Decker, son, Mark (Peggy) Hull, both of Hurricane, 3 Grandchildren, Jackie, Jimmy and Christopher, 7 great grandchildren, and sister Merdith Mazur of Jackson, Michigan.
Graveside funeral service was Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Valley View Cemetery with Pastor Travis Bradley officiating.

KAREN ANN MCCALLISTER
Karen Farmer McCallister, 74, of Winfield, passed away on March 13, 2024 at Hubbard Hospice Hospice West, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 12, 1949. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Fred Farmer and Wanda Persinger Farmer and her brother, J. C. Farmer.
She is survived by her sons: Kevin, Keith and Kenneth; her siblings: Sue (Dannie) Bowman, David Farmer, Robert (Renee) Farmer and Steve (Deanna) Farmer; sister-in-law: Tracy Farmer; three grandchildren, one great-grandson and a host of nieces and nephews.
Per her wishes she will be cremated and no services will be held at this time.

Lisa Peyton
Lisa Darlene McCallister Peyton, 54, of Hurricane, gained her angel wings on March 12, 2024, after a 4-year battle with Cancer, She was a former employee of Shoney’s for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Lillie McCallister, and she is survived by her Husband Lonnie Peyton, Children Lacey (Adam) Griffith of Fraziers Bottom, Kayla (Adam) Fortebraccio of Hurricane, Ashley (Matt) Hill of Julian, Paul Peyton of Dunbar. Brother Allen (Diane) McCallister of Hurricane, Linda (Chris) Ball of Milton, Diana (Dennie) Taylor of Hurricane along with 10 very special grandchildren.
Funeral Service was Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Terry McKenny officiating.

Phyllis Anne Rothgeb
Phyllis Anne (Richards) Rothgeb, 81, of Winfield, born September 21, 1942 in Charleston, passed away March 10, 2024 at Hubbard House, Charleston after an extended illness. Preceding her in death are her father, Thomas “Tom” Richards; mother, Kathryn Richards; and husband James “Fritz” Rothgeb.
She is survived by her daughter, Christy Rothgeb of Greenwood, IN; son, Jason Rothgeb of Huntington; brother Larry Richards of Marietta, OH; and sister, Judy Smith of Milton.
Phyllis’ avid curiosity fueled a life-long passion for reading, discussing, and learning about a wide variety of interests and viewpoints. She held a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from WVSU, and was an advocate, mentor, and director for literacy and ESL programs. She will be most remembered for her kind-hearted spirit, deep empathy, and many artistic talents.
