Community Calendar for Week of January 16

SATURDAYS THROUGH FEBRUARY

  • There will be a free open gym for 1st – 5th graders every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Zone Out Sports, located on Morris Court, just off Main Street in Hurricane.

JANUARY 16

  • Putnam County Library STEMuary Event: Learn how to create a hanging birdfeeder at the Buffalo Library during business hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The Bridge Church, 279 Dairy Road, Poca, will be holding a clothing closet and food giveaway from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • The Moms With Littles Group, for expectant moms and moms with babies under 3 years old, meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Heartbeat of the Valley, 28 Mission Way, Scott Depot.

JANUARY 17

  • There will be an evening of praise and thanksgiving at 7 p.m. at Bancroft Mission, 5936 Charleston Road, Bancroft.
  • Putnam County Library STEMuary Event: Children can learn about engineering through the tale of the Three Little Pigs at the Eleanor Library during business hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

JANUARY 18

  • There will be a make your own macarons party from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro. The cost is $30 per person. For more information and to register, call (304) 651-2584.
  • The Tri-State Film Club will be meeting from 10 a.m. to noon at Teays Valley Church of God in Scott Depot. The club will be recreating a scene from “Saving Private Ryan.”
  • There will be a barn painting class during the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley. Call 304-741-5321 to reserve a spot.
  • There will be a Crush Run 10 Miler Course Preview and Training Run at 8 a.m. at Meeks Mountain Trails at Hurricane City Park. Meet up at the big red barn.

JANUARY 19

  • Visual Volume, Poca High’s Show Choir, will be holding their annual dinner theatre at 2:30 and 4 p.m. at the school. Tickets are $20. Doors open at 1 p.m.

JANUARY 22

  • Putnam County Library STEMuary Event: There will be a beaded snowflake workshop for adult crafters at 11 a.m. at the Eleanor Library.

JANUARY 23

  • The Putnam County Fair Board will meet at 7 p.m. at the Eleanor Municipal Building (entrance in back).

JANUARY 24

  • Lone Oak Church of God Mission, 1303 Mclane Pike, Red House, will be holding a teen movie night at 7 p.m.

JANUARY 25

  • Saturday Morning Coffee and Craft at Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro: Paint a valentine gnome from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $35 per person. For more information and to register, call (304) 651-2584.

JANUARY 26

  • The Kanawha Trail Club will be hiking the Mary Ingles Trail in Putnam County. Meet up at 1:30 p.m. at the Winfield end of the trail. The walk is 2 miles in and out for a total of 4 miles.
  • Fear on the Farm needs dedicated haunters. There will be an informational meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fear on the Farm, 8325 Winfield Road, Winfield. Ages 14 and up – haunters under 14 must have their parents work with them. For more information, call 304-741-6238.
  • The West Virginia Comics and Toy Show is coming to Social Event Space, 2833 Main Street, Hurricane, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

JANUARY 27

  • Putnam County Library STEMuary Event: Children can learn about chemistry at the Poca Library at 3:30 p.m. Recommended for grades 4 and above.

JANUARY 28

  • The Hurricane Civic Chorus welcomes new members ages 15 and up! Spring season begins at 7 p.m. at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Ave, Hurricane.
