Red Hot and Heat Wave, Hurricane High School’s two award winning show choirs, debuted their 2025 competition show during their annual dinner theater, which was held January 10 through 12 at the school. The annual event features a dinner theater with entertainment provided by students, and two separate show choir performances afterwards.
Heat Wave, Hurricane High’s all-girl show choir, has chosen the theme of “Charlie’s Angels” for this year’s competition show. The performers danced in front of a backdrop which was inspired by the iconic logo of the 1970’s Charlie’s Angels television show. The thrilling performance featured flashy costumes and electrifying dance numbers befitting a theme of action and espionage.
Inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Red Hot’s competition show is entitled “Scrooge.” Featuring lavish, Victorian-inspired costumes and a backdrop of an enormous clock set amid old fashioned city buildings, the show explored themes of reflecting upon the mistakes made in one’s life and making changes for the future.
The annual dinner theater is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Hurricane’s show choirs. Over thirty local businesses donated items to be given out as door prizes or raffled off throughout the event. The dinner menu included roast beef, green beans, mashed potatoes, and dessert.
The Red Hot Show Choir was founded in 1992, and has earned many awards over the years for their dynamic, action-packed shows. Heat Wave, a second show choir featuring all female performers, was established in 2016. Both Red Hot and Heat Wave are defending state champions. Joseph Kincaid is the current director of Hurricane High’s show choirs, and will be celebrating his tenth anniversary as director this year.
On February 1, the 2025 Red Hot Championship will be held at Hurricane High School. This event will feature 17 groups from West Virginia, Ohio, and Virginia.
