Community Calendar for Week of April 24

NOW – APRIL 26

  • The Nitro Antique Car Club Spring Swap Meet will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Winfield Riding Club.

APRIL 24

  • The Putnam County Fair Board will be meeting at 7 p.m. at the upstairs meeting room of the Eleanor Municipal Building (entrance is in the back up the ramp).
  • The next Business After Hours sponsored by The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be hosted by Backpack Buddy at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene from 5 to 7 p.m. RSVP by calling 304-757-6510.

APRIL 25

  • Heartbeat of the Valley, 28 Mission Way, Scott Depot, will be hosting Heartbeat’s Hangout Cafe and Play for moms with kids up to 4 years old from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Register by calling 681-235-2097.
  • The Rowseys will be performing at 7 p.m. at Valley View Free Will Baptist Church, 2499 Virginia Avenue, Hurricane.

APRIL 25 – 26

  • There will be a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Putnam Aging, 2558 Winfield Road, St. Albans. Proceeds benefit Senior Olympics participant fees.

APRIL 26 – 27

  • The Spring Pumpkin Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Crafts, vintage items, petting zoo, and pony rides. Tickets are $5; children 10 and under get in free.

APRIL 26

  • Pick of the Litter Animal Rescue will be having a Clear the Rescue Adoption Event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rural King in Cross Lanes.
  • There will be a plant swap at 1 p.m. at Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro.
  • There will be a seed and plant swap from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Poca Library.
  • There will be an ATV/Jeep/4Wheeler benefit ride for vintage Buffalo Fire Truck restoration. The ride will start at the Buffalo Boat ramp parking area at 8 a.m. The cost is $10 per rider.
  • Kelly’s Quilts, 450 Foster Road, Hurricane, will be holding their grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

APRIL 27

  • There will be a workshop on Wild Foraging 101 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Shelter 5 at Ridenour Park in Nitro. Search the woods for wild forages, edibles, and medicinals.
  • The Upper Vandalia Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. at the Bancroft Mission, located on Route 62. Parking is behind the church.

APRIL 28

  • Raechel from WVU’s Putnam County Extension Office will be at the Eleanor Library at 4 p.m. to place eggs into an incubator. Every Monday after this, she will explain what is happening inside the shells until the eggs hatch, likely around May 19.
  • There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon for Putnam Chiropractic Center, 3520 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

APRIL 30

  • Facing Hunger Foodbank will be holding a mobile food pantry at Buffalo United Methodist Church, 27 High Street, Buffalo, from 11 a.m. to noon.
  • Sergio’s Cucina Italiana and Steaks, 2801 Main Street, Hurricane, will be holding a Reality TV trivia night starting at 7 p.m. Test your knowledge of The Real World, Real Housewives, and other American reality TV shows.

MAY 1 – 3

  • The Town of Eleanor will be holding their spring yard sales from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

MAY 1

  • There will be a community baby safety event for new and expectant mothers from 4 to 6 p.m. at Heartbeat of the Valley, 28 Mission Way, Scott Depot.
  • There will be a trivia night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley. The cost to play is $10; RSVP by calling 304-757-6510.

MAY 2 – 3

  • The Winfield Baptist Church Annual Yard Sale will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the church, located at 12902 Winfield Road.

MAY 2

  • There will be a pool tournament from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Senior Center.
  • The Nitro Antique Car Club will be holding a cruise-in starting at 5 p.m. on Second Street.
  • Bancroft Mission will be holding an evening of praise and thanksgiving at 7 p.m. at the Bancroft Park.
  • Putnam County Support Center will be holding a resource fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 10822 Winfield Road, Winfield.
  • Business Before Business will be held at Gresham Plumbing, 1195 US Route 60, Hurricane. RSVP by calling the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce at 304-757-6510.

SATURDAYS STARTING MAY 3

  • The Putnam County Farmer’s Market is open for the season from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field beside Exxon, across from the Putnam County Library in Teays Valley.
  • The County Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.at Valley Park in Hurricane.

MAY 3

  • The 2nd Annual Harmony House Renaissance Faire will be held at Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington. Enjoy a day browsing oddities from more than 40 local artisans as you listen to music and watch dozens of performances of horseback archery, combat, belly-dancing, and more! Tickets are $25 adult, $10 child.
  • The Nitro Church of the Nazarene, 1400 Sattes Circle, will be holding their spring bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Fish On Bassmasters – WV will be holding an open tournament starting at the Nitro Boat Ramp from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Poca River Hunting, Fishing, and Recreation Club, 789 Dupont Road, Poca, will be holding a family fun day from 4 to 7 p.m. Fishing tournament, Mother’s Day crafts, games, and more.
  • The 5th Annual Putnam Career and Technical Center SkillsUSA Car Show will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the school in Eleanor. Registration is from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • Witcher Creek Vintage will be having a spring fundraiser sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Pulse Church, 5368 WV Route 34, Winfield. • There will be a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • There will be a flea market parking lot sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Valley Vintage, 404B Midland Trail, Hurricane.
  • The Main Street Spring Festival will be held in Hurricane from 1 to 5 p.m.
