Cops N Rodders Cruise-In Season Off To Early Start

David Smith of Hurricane brought his Candy Burgundy 1937 Chevy Business Coupe to the car show. He says that he likes the style of the cars from this era, because they remind him of his childhood. While Smith was born much later, there were still a few of these cars on the road, often driven by old timers who had purchased them in previous years.

The first Cops N Rodders cruise-in of the season was held last Saturday, April 19, on the parking lot of the Putnam County Bank Loan Center in Hurricane. Featuring over 80 vehicles of different makes and models from a variety of decades, the event provided an opportunity for owners of classic cars to show off their vehicles, visit old friends, and make new acquaintances.

In the past, the Cops N Rodders cruise-in season began in May, but because the weather was so good this year, the first show was moved up a month.

Awards were presented to the Best GM, Best Ford, Best MOPAR, Best Truck, best Street Rod, Best Specialty Vehicle, and Best of Show.

Concessions were provided by the Calvary Baptist Academy middle school baseball team. There are plans for a different sports team from the school to man the concession stand at each cruise-in throughout the season.

Cops-N-Rodders Classic Car Club cruise-ins are held from 5 p.m. to dusk on the third Saturday of each month. Future events will be held on May 17, June 21, July 19, August 16, September 20, and October 18.

Jeremy Vaughn of Culloden brought his 1972 Chevy Camaro, which is Hugger Orange with black accents. He says he always wanted a classic car, and the Camaro was a surprise 40th birthday present which was given to him by his wife Mary. He redid the seats with orange and black stripes to match the exterior.
Paul Barnette of Teays Valley brought his 1968 Camaro SS to the cruise-in. His son was born in 1968, and he purchased the vehicle because it was made in the same year. The Camaro is viper red with black stripes.
Mike and Donna Mannion of Nitro pose beside their Perfect Blue 2015 Holden SS, which was imported from Australia. A limited-edition vehicle, it is one of only 65 models which were ever made.
Kevin Dudding of Tornado poses beside his 1951 Chevy Deluxe. The vehicle is Hugger Orange, and features flame decals on the hood.
