Known to everyone as Norma Jean, she was best known by her favorite name of all — Grammy.
From a young age, Norma Jean dreamed of seeing the world. In high school, she hoped to become a flight attendant so she could travel far and wide — and she fulfilled that dream in her own way. Norma Jean was an avid traveler and adventurer who visited all 50 states and a total of 22 countries, including Israel, Costa Rica, China, and many European Countries. She hiked the Grand Canyon four times and trekked over 365 miles of the Appalachian Trail. She also had a great love for baseball, especially cheering on her favorite team, the Cincinnati Reds.
Norma Jean retired in 2003 after 33 years of dedicated service with the United States Postal Service. A devoted member of Teays Valley Baptist Church, she cherished time spent with her family, her church family, and many dear friends.
During her 36 years at Teays Valley Baptist, Norma assisted in many ministries including the Bus Ministry, Awana Clubs, Ladies Visitation, the Prison Ministry, and the Food Pantry, among others. She especially loved attending the church’s annual Jubilee, which brought her great joy each year. Norma dedicated her existence to serving the Lord in whatever way He called her to serve.
Norma Jean lived her life with joy, strength, and a generous heart. Her deep faith, sense of adventure, and unwavering kindness left a lasting impression among all who knew her. She instilled in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the importance of giving their very best in all they do, and she led by that example every day of her life.
One of her final and most cherished moments came just six days before her passing, when she met her newborn great-granddaughter, Lucy Jean. Sharing the same middle name, the moment was a beautiful full-circle blessing — a quiet joy as Norma Jean held the newest “Jean” and saw her legacy continue to grow.
