Ann Riffee poses with the 2nd Place Women’s trophy and her 13 ribbons.

During the week of June 10-13, 2025, six Putnam seniors represented Putnam County in the Mountain State Senior Olympics in Mineral County. Aging and Family Services of Mineral County has been holding this event for over 20 years. This year, Team Putnam collectively brought back 30 awards as well as a 2nd Place trophy award, to Ann Riffee (90 years old) as she acquired the 2nd most awards of all the women present.

Ann Riffee, serving as MVP for the Hometown Senior Center placed in 13 events and won the 2nd Place Women’s trophy as noted above. Mike Daniels of Kanawha County but serving as our MVP for John Henson Center placed in 8 events. Karen Johnson (OAA Director) placed in six events. Darrel Perry serving as MVP for Buffalo placed in four events with his wife Laura Perry also present and participating. Lonnie Jones of Cabell County also represented Putnam and placed in three events.

Other things that occur during the week of olympic festivities are a talent show, BINGO, card playing, outings, senior center games and eating. The town and businesses of Keyser sponsor this event and provided two very lavish meals as well as a pizza party with a dance. The 4-day event ended with a bowling tournament prior to the awards banquet. The cost for the 4 days has traditionally been under $200 total.

All seniors 55 and older are welcome to join Putnam Aging Program for this annual event. We provide transportation and three MVP awards a year.
