This tree in the section of the park near the I-64 rest area was destroyed by the high winds.
On Wednesday, June 25, a fierce storm rolled through Teays Valley in the early evening. While more western parts of Hurricane only received light showers, the heavy rains and powerful winds caused havoc at Valley Park. The tempest did not produce measurable rainfall in areas as close as two miles from the park. Several trees in the wooded areas of the park were knocked over, and maintenance crews had to cut down the fallen trees and clean up scattered branches and other debris.
The storm also damaged the park’s portable stage which is used for events. The stage was not available for the Night Market entertainers on Thursday evening, and the band had to perform in the area beside the conference center.
