A Sign of Action on the New Hurricane Middle School

The sign is up at the site of the new Hurricane Middle School. The money to build the school was approved by voters in November of last year. The project is funded by $25 million from the State and $39 million from the $50 million School Bond. The project is expected to be put out for bid before the end of the current school year. Construction is slated to commence next August and projected to see completion before the start of the 2028-29 school year. It is possible that the new school will be student-ready on opening day in August 2028.

Some design details, however, have yet to be determined. Traffic flow has been a problem for years at Hurricane Middle School on Midland Trail as many parents drop off and pick up children at the beginning and close of the instructional day. That problem will shift to the new school which will be adjacent to Hurricane High School. A study is underway to determine a design that will best address the traffic congestion issue at both the new school and Hurricane High School. The study is expected to be completed before the end of the calendar year.

When full design details are determined, the design will enable educators to provide a curriculum which can be adjusted to meet the challenges of ever evolving technologies in a very safe and secure setting. Design details should be finalized when next spring arrives.
