PROCLAMATION
City of Hurricane, West Virginia
WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday is a nationwide event that takes place annually on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and is dedicated to supporting small businesses and highlighting the important role they play in our local economy, in job creation and in community vitality; and
WHEREAS, according to the United States Chamber of Commerce, there are 33.2 million small businesses in the U.S. that make up 99% of all businesses – and for the past 20 years, small businesses have accounted for roughly 40% of the United States’ gross domestic output (GDP), which equates to trillions of dollars of economic activity; and
WHEREAS, small businesses are the backbone of our local community, providing unique products. services, and experiences and contributing to the economic growth and cultural richness of our City; and
WHEREAS, shopping locally and supporting small businesses not only stimulates the economy, but it also strengthens the connections that bind our community together; and
WHEREAS, all residents are encouraged to shop small and support local entrepreneurs, artisans, retailers and restaurants, as a means of promoting economic resilience and community solidarity; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Scott Edwards, Mayor of the City of Hurricane, do hereby proclaim November 29, 2025 as:
SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY
in the City of Hurricane and encourage all residents to make a concerted effort to support and shop at small businesses on this day and throughout the year.
