Volunteer Firefighter to Be Hurricane Christmas Parade Grand Marshal

Westley Quinn will be Grand Marshal of the Hurricane Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 13. As Grand Marshal, Quinn will represent all who were part of the rescue operation in Mason County on December 2nd in which a truck driver was trapped in the cab of an 18-wheeler that was dangling over the side of a bridge on U.S. 35 in Mason County. Hurricane Fire Chief Paul Niedbalski directed the rescue and will ride with Quinn.

Quin volunteered to go over the bridge rail on a rope, made entrance into the cab, and secured the driver in a harness. The rescue team then lifted the pair to safety. Upon entering the cab, Quinn found the driver trapped against the windshield. Communication was difficult because the driver did not speak and had little understanding of English.

The team of twenty individuals taking part in the rescue included members of the Hurricane, Pt. Pleasant, Nitro, St. Albans, Buffalo, Eleanor, Winfield, and Teays Valley Fire Departments.
