Catherine Ann Cheshire
Catherine Ann Cheshire, of Poca, passed away unexpectedly and was welcomed into the arms of God on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
A devout wife, mother, and grandmother—lovingly known as Mamaw—Catherine was an avid quilter who found great joy in camping with her soulmate and best friend of 43 years, Kevin, and their beloved puppies, Becky and Emily. Above all else, her family was her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Morrison; her father, Earl Adkins; and her brother, Timothy Adkins.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kevin Cheshire; her sons, Matthew (Briana) Givens, Golden (Jeresa) Givens, and Adam Cheshire; and her cherished grandchildren, Brady Cheshire; Hayden, Sawyer, and Madelyn Givens; and Jillian, Oliver, and Archer Cheshire.
Service was Monday, January 5, 2026, at Poca Baptist Church, with Pastor Tom Moore officiating.
Adele Lina Childers
Adele Lina Childers, 86, of Eleanor, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at her home. She worked for many years in the restaurant and food preparation industry. She was a Christian and Catholic by faith.
Born April 14, 1939, in Naples, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Mario Masera and Giuseppina Masera. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Victor Preiser and Jerry Childers; sons, Tony Mikel Preiser and “Mario” Preiser; step sons, Kep Childers and Kevin Childers; step daughter, Kim Childers; granddaughter, Courtney Childers; brother Arturo Masera.
Survivors include her sons, Allan Preiser and his wife Kelly of Campbells Creek, Victor Preiser of Scott Depot and John Preiser of Eleanor; sister, Renata Masera Incano and her husband Dante of Naples Italy; daughter in law, Linda Preiser; grandchildren, London Childers Graley, Carson Childers, Gabrielle Browning and Dora Preiser. She is also survived by two great grandchildren Ace Browning and Tori Browning, extended family and friends.
Funeral service was Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Joel Sites officiating. Burial was in St. Patricks Cemetery, Scott Depot.
Vickie Lynn Dunlap
Vickie Lynn Dunlap, 60, of Nitro, passed away January 3, 2026.
Vickie is a graduate of Poca High School and former employee of Fruth Pharmacy in Nitro.
She is preceded in death by her parents John Cart and Mildred Cotroneo.
She is survived by her son Cody Dunlap; sister Debbie (Jimbo) Wiley; niece Sheri Parsons; and two great aunts Evelyn Taylor and Brenda Crites.
Faatali P. ‘Tali’ Gaydosz
Faatali P. “Tali” Gaydosz, 60, of Fraziers Bottom, passed away at home surrounded by her family on December 31, 2025.
She was born to Perefoti and Tamia Nofoa Ieremia on December 18, 1965 in Pago Pago, American Samoa. She was preceded in death by her father, Perefoti Ieremia and her brother Aleki Ieremia.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Peter J. Gaydosz; her beloved children: Steven (Miranda) Gaydosz of Culloden, David (MacKenzi) Gaydosz of Scott Depot, Taylor (Evan) Haley of Hurricane; and her treasured grandchildren: Steven, Lincoln, Myles, Cruz, Vallie and Maven Gaydosz who were the light of her life; she is also survived by her loving Mother: Tamia Ieremia; Siblings: Filemoni Ieremia, Saaga Filoiali’i, Ta’avili Ieremia, Naomi Ieremia, Fa’afetai Ieremia, Helen Heather and Jeremiah Ieremia.
Tali graduated with her Bachelor of Science from WVSU and was a Counselor with a nonprofit, Council of Three Rivers, where she dedicated her time to helping and uplifting others. Above all else, Tali was a woman of deep and unwavering faith. She lived her life as a reflection of God’s love, through kindness, patience, generosity, and quiet strength. Throughout her courageous battle with cancer, she remained steadfast in her belief, choosing peace over fear and hope over despair. Even in her hardest moments, Tali only spoke of gratitude.
Family was at the center of Tali’s heart. She found her greatest joy in time spent with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren. She was also deeply proud of her Samoan heritage and made it a priority to share her culture, values, and faith with others, honoring where she came from and glorifying God in all she did.
A Celebration of Tali’s Life will be 12:00pm Friday January 9, 2026 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane.
Charles ‘Chuck’ Meadows
Charles “Chuck” H. Meadows, 68, of Winfield, passed away on January 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.
Chuck was born to the late Marshall and Bernie Jane Kingsbury Meadows on May 16, 1957, in Guyandotte. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters: Joyce Austin and Sandy Scarberry; and his brother, Benny Meadows.
He was a former member of Winfield Vol. Fire Department, where he served 24 years and also on the Board of Directors there. He was very active in getting the WVFD Substation started and located in Fraziers Bottom.
He lastly worked for Hurricane Wrecker starting there in February, 1999 with Wayne Lively until Charleston Auto took ownership in October 2008.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Judith A. Dawson Meadows; children: Bethany (Jason) Holley of Glenwood, Brent (Kelly) Meadows of Powell, OH, John (Sara) Lovejoy of Charleston, Jonathan Meadows of Fraziers Bottom, Travis Meadows of Fraziers Bottom, Vanessa (Max) Bailes of Hurricane, and Joe Meadows of Winfield; brothers: Mike (Brenda) Meadows of Ona, Jeff (Debbie) Meadows of Talcott, and Rick (Teresa) Meadows of Ona; former wife and mother of his boys: Beverly (Dayton) Wilcoxen-Milhoan of Fraziers Bottom; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service for Chuck will be 2:00pm Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Gary Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Moriah Church Cemetery on Turkey Creek Road in Hurricane.
Friends may visit the family 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Saturday at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, as well as an hour prior to the service on Sunday.
Samuel C. Pierson Jr.
Pastor Samuel Carl Pierson, Jr., 44, of Hurricane, passed away on January 1, 2026, at his residence in Hurricane, from an untimely accident. His sudden passing has deeply shaken his family and his amazing church community, for everyone who knew this great godly man loved him. Sam will be remembered for his kind heart and the light that he brought into all the lives of those around him. He had a rare gift for brightening even the darkest days, a quality best described by the many who say, “he put a smile on my face every time I saw him”. His ability to offer solace and bring genuine joy was a testament to his deeply compassionate and generous spirit.
Samuel C. Pierson, Jr. was born on June 22, 1981, in Newport News, Virginia, to Sam Carl Pierson and Cindy Christine Carte Pierson Simpson.
Sam attended Capital High School, where he was a member of the ROTC program. After graduating he enlisted in the West Virginia Army National Guard, completing his training at Fort Gordon in 2001. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in 2003 and later deployed to Iraq with the 201st Field Artillery Battalion, where he was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his service, Sam also worked as a Federal Technician in various J6 roles, including COMSEC Custodian for West Virginia. Sam separated from enlisted service in 2009 due to his combat injuries. He would continue to serve his country and the State of West Virginia throughout his career as a Military Authority employee specializing in patching and database administration and security. Sam’s career was marked with numerous awards including the Army Commendation Medal, and Combat Action Badge. He valued his military service, and his family is very proud of his dedication and sacrifice for all of us.
His treasured daughter, Alex, came to him in 2008 and gave him his first true purpose, brightening his life in immeasurable ways. He was foremost a devoted father, and it was rare to see him without his “Bear” as he called her, right by his side.
Sam married the love of his life Erin Beth Linville Huey on April 25, 2014, adding another beautiful daughter to his family, Layla Grace Huey. Together, they joyfully dedicated their lives to serving the Lord through the ministry He entrusted to them. Sam completed the WV South District School of Ministry where he later became an Ordained Elder in the Church of Nazarene in July 2021. Sam served as the lead pastor at Grace Church of the Nazarene in South Charleston for seven and a half years where he saw a great potential for growth and had a clear vision for guiding the church to serve God’s purpose. Under his guidance the small flock blossomed into a thriving community. His work will continue to inspire and guide the church for generations to come. Sam was known for his great sense of humor and for putting witty lines in the church’s marquee along with investing in the church and his community. He dedicated his life to shepherding others with compassion, wisdom, and Christlike love.
Sam was the owner of Profix LLC, a residential and commercial construction company, where he combined skill and passion through building, remodeling, and repairing with care and craftmanship. His hobbies included working on cars by customizing them with one of his best friends, Dave, autocross racing, camping, boating, and computers.
Samuel C. Pierson, Jr. is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emma Jean Bowles Pierson and Charles Victor Pierson.
Sam is survived by his maternal grandparents, Gail Thomas Carte and David Carte, his parents Samuel C. Pierson, and Cindy C. Carte Pierson Simpson and David Simpson, his beloved wife Erin Beth Pierson, and their beautiful daughters, Alexandria Pierson and Layla Huey. Sam is lovingly remembered by so many including his sister, Christina Thompson and husband Del, his sister, Monica Simpson, his brother, David Simpson and wife Rebecca, his brother, Daniel Joseph Pierson and his wife Hannah, his brother, Jacob Charles Pierson and his wife Lauren, and his numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and best friends.
Funeral service for Sam was Monday, January 5, 2026, at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Earl Pennington officiating along with military honors.
Nancy L. Pitchford
Nancy L. Pitchford, age 84, of Putnam County, entered peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior at the Hubbard House on December 30, 2025.
Born on March 31, 1941, Nancy lived a life rooted in faith, love and service. She trusted deeply in God’s promises and walked daily in His grace.
Alongside her husband, Nancy was the co-owner and operator of a gift shop that later evolved into NANDEL’s where she shared her creativity working with flowers. Nancy found great joy in God’s creation. She loved working with flowers, decorating and spending time outdoors, especially the beach and mowing the lawn simply to feel the warmth of the sunshine. These moments brought her peace and reminded her of the beauty of the world God made.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Delbert, and their children, Melody (Joseph) Mendenhall and Angie (Tracy) Hatfield, the grandmother of five to Heather (Joseph) Kessler, Adam (Britani) Wright, Chad (Katie) Wright, Haley (Zack) Vannatter, Logan Swiger and 10 great grandchildren.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Orie and Talma Rowe, a beloved daughter, Neda Swiger, and sister Maxine Gardner.
Though we mourn her passing, we rejoice in knowing she has heard the words, “WELL DONE, GOOD and FAITHFUL DAUGHTER.” Nancy now rests in eternal peace, reunited with loved ones and forever in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
James L. Teed
James L. Teed, of Scott Depot, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on December 29, 2025. He was born on March 20, 1947, and lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and service to others.
Jim was a successful entrepreneur and business owner who founded and operated multiple businesses throughout his career, most notably Teed & Associates, CPAs. Through his work, he earned the respect of colleagues and clients for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence. Jim was a graduate of Morris Harvey College.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was devoted to his family and took pride in providing for them. He was known for his perseverance, wisdom, and strong work ethic, qualities that will continue to live on through those he loved.
Jim is survived by his brother, Gerald Teed (Gail) and sister, Joan Helmrich (Vic), daughter Marlene Mallory(Roger) and son Jonathan Teed (Tate’), grandchildren, and many more family and loved ones, who will cherish his memory and the legacy he leaves behind. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, John and Shirley (Roby)Teed and daughter, Christina Teed.
James L. Teed will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Phyllis Jane Vandale
Phyllis Jane Vandale (née Mayes), 86, of Scott Depot, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on January 1, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.
Born on February 27, 1939, in South Charleston, Phyllis was the daughter of the late John Philip Mayes I and Flossie Madelen Barker Mayes. She graduated from South Charleston High School and later completed secretarial training at Ben Franklin Career Center.
Phyllis built a dedicated career at the Kroger Warehouse in Kanawha City. Alongside her husband, Robert L. Vandale Jr., she co-owned and operated Bob’s Wheel Estate and Ryder Truck Rental on Route 60 in Saint Albans for many years. She retired in 2005 at the age of 65.
A woman of deep faith, Phyllis was a devoted member of Scary Creek Church of God in Scott Depot. She found joy and purpose through worship and fellowship and was an active member of the church choir.
Phyllis is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Deborah Griffith Barker and companion Mark Bruton, brother John P. Mayes II and wife Joyce; grandsons Brandon Barker and Quincy Bruton; and great-grandsons Ezeekiel Offutt, Kashton Bruton, and Colson Bruton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert L. Vandale Jr.
Phyllis found happiness in simple pleasures—cooking and baking for loved ones, fishing outdoors, and supporting her grandsons’ school sports and wheelchair basketball events with pride and encouragement.
Her life was guided by enduring faith, holding close the words from John 14:2–3
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”.
Emery ‘Woody’ Woodall
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emery “Woody” Layton Woodall II, age 76, of Culloden, who left us suddenly at home on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Born to the late Emery and Dorothy Martin Woodall, Emery was a proud graduate of Hamlin High School, Class of 1967, and dedicated many years of service to the United States Postal Service in Culloden.
He was a devoted husband to Mary Lee Bias Woodall, and a loving father to Michele Woodall, Chris Woodall (with spouse Alecia Lambert Woodall), and Jennifer Woodall Wooten (with spouse Derek Wooten). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Tyler Bird, Dylan Bird, Owen Wooten, and Alex Woodall. Emery is also survived by his brothers, Martin Woodall of Dallas and Wayne Woodall of Buckhannon.
Known for his warmth, dedication, and unwavering support for his family and friends, Emery touched the lives of all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him.
A celebration of Emery’s life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and honor his remarkable journey.
