March 3, 2026, was the beginning of the end for the press box at Redskin Stadium. Demolition of the press box and concession stand at Hurricane High School is the first visible expenditure of the $50 million School Bond funds that voters approved in the 2024 November election. The bond authorized $40 million in county funds for a new $65 million Hurricane Middle School and $10 million in county funding for athletic field upgrades throughout the county. $3.25 million was allotted for a new press box, new bleachers and lighting for Redskin Stadium.

Athletic upgrades include new press boxes, bleachers and lighting at Poca and Winfield High Schools; new lioghting for baseball and softball fields at Buffalo High School; and new lighting for football fields at George Washington Middle, Winfield Middle and Poca Middle.

The upgrades are slated to be complete in time for high school football kick off in August.
