Mountain Made Vendor Fair Funds Educational Outreach

The Mountain Made Vendor Fair featured thirty local vendors.

The Mountain Made Vendor Fair brought thirty local vendors to the Valley Park Conference Center on Saturday, March 14. Some of the crafts featured at the fair included woodworking, candle making, soap making, laser engraving, 3D printing, tie dye apparel, and much more.

The Mountain Made Vendor Fair also served as the debut event for KD Cook Pottery. Kimberly Cook of Hurricane took her first pottery class in 2019 from Arts and Thoughts Studio in Teays Valley, and now she spends her time creating hand built and wheel thrown pottery from her garage studio. “Once I got my hands into the clay, I knew it was what I wanted to do,” she explains, pointing out that pottery is a great form of therapy. Her booth at the fair featured bowls, platters, trinket dishes, egg plates, chip and dip trays, mugs, butter dishes, keepsake boxes, magnets, and ramen noodle bowls. KD Cook Pottery will have a booth at Hurricane’s Main Street Spring Festival on May 2nd. She is also on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

Dale Morton, owner of Dale Morton Studio Mascot Costumes, also had a booth at the fair to promote his book, “The Return of the Flying Boat.” The book, which was published in November, is about the Spruce Goose, a flying boat (also known as a sea plane) developed in World War II for cargo transport. While the real Spruce Goose is housed at the Evergreen Air and Space Museum of McMinnville, Oregon, in the book the plane is refurbished and put back into commission on the eve of a conflict between the United States and Russia.

The Mountain Made Vendor Fair was hosted by Valley Events Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to educational outreach opportunities for local youth. Valley Events Group provides funding for projects organized by public and private school teachers, as well as homeschool educators. The organization was started in October of 2025, and has provided funding for the homeschool science classes which are held at Zoology Zone Science Center.

Upcoming events hosted by Valley Events Group include an all cards event which will be held on August 1 for fans of sports cards, trading card games, and other collectible cards. The third annual ValleyCon, which supports both Valley Events and the Zoology Zone Science Center, will be held on November 14. There is also a Yuletide vendor event which is still in the planning phase.
