Easter Extravaganza Moves Indoor, Breaking with Tradition

For the past twenty years, the Easter Extravaganza has been an annual springtime tradition at Teays Valley Church of God. The Scott Depot-based church offers multiple egg hunts for different ages throughout the afternoon, including a sensory friendly hunt for children who would prefer a calmer experience. In addition to the egg hunts, children can also interact with the Easter Bunny, climb and bounce on inflatable fixtures, play games, and participate in other activities.

While the Easter Extravaganza has been held outdoors in the past, this year’s event was held indoors to take into consideration unpredictable March weather. Each hunt featured 3,500 plastic eggs which were filled with candy, and a gold egg which held a cash prize.

A new event this year was the Easter Journey, where volunteers told children about Jesus’ final week on earth, starting with the Last Supper and concluding with the resurrection. Each station featured a different activity to illustrate the lesson.

The Easter Extravaganza marked the beginning of Holy Week services at Teays Valley Church of God, and visitors were invited to attend Palm Sunday services the following Sunday. Services include a carry-in dinner, communion, and foot washing this Thursday at 6 p.m.; a sunrise service on Easter Sunday at 7 a.m. at Valley Park; and an Easter celebration service at 10:15 a.m. at the church.
