Community Calendar for Week of May 7

MAY 7 – 9

  • The Eleanor Town-Wide Spring Yard Sale will be held throughout the town.

MAY 7

  • There will be a meeting to discuss strategies against the data center in Buffalo at 6:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Volunteer Fire Department.
  • Local author Berna Darby will be discussing her children’s book, “Secret Fairy Forest Mice,” at 1:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Library.
  • Vandalia Backgammon Club will be holding weekly backgammon games from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Putnam Moose Lodge, located in Putnam Village Shopping Center. Open to the public.

MAY 8 – 9

  • Putnam County Family Support Center will be holding their annual resource fair Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to Noon at the center, located at 960 Roosevelt Blvd., Eleanor.
  • Hannah’s Pottery, 6 Thoroughbred Road, Scott Depot, will be holding an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Quilts by Phyllis, 2643 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, will be holding their Mother’s Day event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

MAY 8

  • There will be a mother daughter painting event for Mother’s Day with artist Donna Linsell at 6 p.m. at Coffee With A Twist, 101 Main Avenue, Nitro. The cost is $20 per person. For more information, call (304) 759-9002.
  • Bridget’s Dance Academy and Wildlife & Discovery students will be holding a student art and music exhibition from 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane.

MAY 9

  • Charleston Pickleball Club’s Spring Serve and Socialize will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Nitro Athletic Complex, 1650 Park Ave, Nitro. Free and open to everyone.
  • Volunteers are requested for the Nitro Community Clean Up. Meet up at 8 a.m. at the Nitro City Pool.

  • The Eleanor Presbyterian Church, 204 Eleanor Circle, Eleanor, will be holding a BBQ and yard sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Riverside Baptist Church, Route 62, Red House, will be holding a Mother’s Day brunch and devotional at 10 a.m.
  • Hotworks infrared fitness studio, 100 Great Teays Blvd., Scott Depot, will be offering a free Mother’s Day workout from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Book ahead of time by texting 304-550-6828.

  • The wood chipper will be operational from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Putnam Recycling Drop Site located on Midland Trail in Hurricane. Natural growth 8″ and below in diameter; no lumber at all.

  • There will be a genealogy meet-up from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.

  • Nolan Rose, House Candidate for District 19, will be holding a primary day party from 3 to 6 p.m. at Bancroft Community Park.
  • Alex Schnulo of Family Wealth Group will be bringing useful information to attendees about retirement planning for self-employed small businesses owners. Session will be held at noon at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley. RSVP by calling the Chamber of Commerce at (304) 757-6510.
  • The Putnam County Crochet Club will be meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Timothy’s in the Valley Episcopal Church, 3434 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

  • The First Annual Appalachian Gold Barrel Rush will be held at the Winfield Riding Club in Winfield.

  • The 2026 Putnam County Senior Prom will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John Henson Senior Center in Hurricane. Music and refreshments provided.
