Community Calendar for Week of May 14

MAY 15 – 17

  • Paddles With Purpose Pickleball Tournament will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Nitro Athletic Complex. For more information, call Recovery Point at (304) 523-HOPE (4673).
  • The First Annual Appalachian Gold Barrel Rush will be held at the Winfield Riding Club in Winfield.

  • There will be a rain or shine yard sale at the Buffalo Church of God activities building (Route 62 and Church Street).

  • The Putnam County Library will be hosting a homeschool field day beginning at 11 a.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.
  • The 2026 Putnam County Senior Prom will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John Henson Senior Center in Hurricane. Music and refreshments provided.

MAY 16 – 17

  • The First Baptist Church of Nitro, 2200 2nd Avenue, Nitro, will be celebrating their 125th anniversary. Picnic on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.; 11 a.m. special worship service and dinner to follow on Sunday morning. On Sunday evening, the Martin Luther King Jr. Chorus will be performing at 6 p.m.

MAY 16

  • There will be a bicycle swap meet starting at 9 a.m. at Ridenour Park in Nitro. Meet up at the bike trail.
  • Valley Outdoors, 3034 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane, will be celebrating their fifth anniversary with their first live in-person and national simulcast auction from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Faith In Motion, 3495 Teays Valley Road Ste B, Hurricane, will be offering puppy yoga at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $20. For registration information, call (304) 760-9664.

  • Fraizers Bottom Methodist Church, located at 1 Church Lane, Fraizers Bottom, will have a Song and Praise Service beginning at 6 pm.

MAY 19

  • There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon for the new Poca Senior Center, at Valley Cakes and Cafe, 2887 Charleston Road Poca. Ladies’ tea and women’s health workshop from 1 to 2 p.m.

  • There will be a homeschool show and tell event at 10 a.m. at the Eleanor Library. Presentations are to be 5 minutes long.

  • There will be a hiring event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Diamond Electric, 159 Eleanor Industrial Park Drive, Eleanor.
  • There will be a gentle hatha slow and hold flow yoga session at 6:30 p.m. at River Ridge Church, 1 Saturn Way, Hurricane.

MAY 23 AND 25

  • The Buffalo Welcome Center, located along Rt. 62 in the Buffalo Historic Square, will be open on Saturday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Amanda Smith and Relative Acoustically will be performing from 6 to 9 p.m. at Emma Rae’s Steakhouse, 1101 Hospital Drive, Hurricane.
  • The first ever Renaissance Faire will be held at Valley Park in Hurricane starting at 10 a.m. Admission is $10 for ages 18 and above; $5 for ages 11-18; and ten and under get in free.

MAY 28

  • The Night Market at Valley Park will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Local vendors and live entertainment. This month’s theme is Derby Night.

  • The 7th Herd Immunity Livestock Show will be held at the Winfield Riding Club in Winfield. Open to youth in Putnam, Cabell, Jackson, Lincoln, Roane, and Mason Counties.

MAY 29

  • WV Birth to Three and the Putnam County Family Support Center will be hosting Stomp, ROAR, Let’s Explore from 4 to 6 p.m. at Eleanor Park. Games, activities, and prizes for every child who attends.
  • There will be a Paint and Praise Ladies Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Teays Valley Church of God, 185 Connection Point, Scott Depot. The cost is $35 per person. To register, go to the church’s Facebook page or call (304) 757-9222.
    Putnam County Solid Waste Authority will host a homeschool science class at Hurricane City Park from 10 a.m. to noon.
