Breeze Cats Parallel and Black Spot celebrated their 14th birthday on Sunday, June 14. While they may be teenagers, they are approximately 72 in human years. They are brother and sister, the children of Tiffany, a stray cat from Buffalo. In years past, Cookie Ambler wrote stories for the Breeze which inspired by Tiffany and Parallel.

While Parallel and Black Spot are pretty spry for their age, they have had some health conditions develop over the years. Parallel has Feline Ceruminous Cystomatosis, a condition where non-cancerous bluish gray cysts form in the earwax glands of the ears. Black Spot was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, which caused her to have great spurts of energy and playfulness and a constant demand for treats. Unfortunately, the super fast metabolism caused by hyperthyroidism causes immense stress to the other organs in a cat’s body. Since starting medication for the condition, Black Spot has returned to a more placid lifestyle of long naps and occasional playtime.

Both Parallel and Black Spot enjoyed their birthday treats.
