The June 9 Putnam County Commission meeting was a day of recognition for Eagle Research Corporation.
County Attorney Larry Frye read a proclamation which recognized Eagle’s beginning in 1976 and its 50 years of growth during which it became a leading supplier of computers and electronic equipment to the oil and gas industry in more than 20 countries.
The proclamation states: “The Putnam County Commission does hereby proclaim June 12, 2026, as Eagle Research Day in Putnam County, West Virginia, and encourages all residents to make a concerted effort to support and shop at small businesses on this day and throughout the year.”
The company was founded by Jim Butch who built computers in his home garage. The company is now run by Frances Butch, Butch’s widow, and employs in excess of 60 engineers and technicians.
In other business, the commission dismissed DAEA Cases 2024-07 and 2024-08. The cases involved property on North Poplar Fork Road in Hurricane.
Following a lengthy executive session, the commission appointed James Rippetoe to the Putnam County Animal Shelter Board; Cynthia McGill to the Putnam County Tourism Board; and Jason Asbury, Casey Arthur, and Adolfo Torres to the Putnam County Development Authority.
The next commission meeting will be June 30th at 5 p.m.
