RUBY MAXINE ADKINS
Ruby Maxine Grass Adkins, 93, of Hurricane, entered into eternal rest March 12, 2021 at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
She was born April 18, 1927 and is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was laid to rest at Griffith’s Cemetery, Hurricane.
JENNIFER LEE BALDWIN
Jennifer Lee Baldwin, 47, of Poca, passed away on March 16, 2021.
Born November 10, 1973 in Phoenixville, PA, she was a daughter of John and Barbara Jane Roulston Summers.
Jennifer was an avid animal lover and enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, John “Jay” (Erica) Summers; sisters, Kathy (Andrew) Farmer and Jane (Dusty) Fowler; 13 nieces and nephews, 7 great nieces and nephews, and her fur babies, Dakara, Gage, Roscoe, Dallas, Midnight, and Booty.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Cunningham Parker & Johnson Funeral Home in Charleston, with Rev. Scott Davis, officiating. Burial was in Floral Hills Garden of Memories in Pocatalico.
HOWARD RAYMOND BROWNE II
Howard Raymond Browne II, of Hurricane, went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2021 at home after an extended illness. He was born in Alabama on September 16, 1941.
He was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral. He retired from Pepsi after 11 years of service. He was a loyal member of the Teamsters Union, Nitro Moose Lodge and VFW Mountaineer Post 9097.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Gladys Browne and grandson, Jonathan Browne.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Barbara Jean Browne; three sons Ray (Joy) Browne, Phil (Rhonda) Browne, John (Jan) Browne; one daughter, Christina Hodges (James Davis); 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Dolores Means and Connie Smith. A special thank you to his grandson and caregiver, Bradley Hodges.
Funeral service was Saturday, March 20, 2021 at St. George Orthodox Cathedral with Reverend Father Joseph Hazar and The Very Reverend Father Olof Scott officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park in Hurricane.
Bonnie Forsback
Bonnie Theresa Forsback, 46, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 20, 2021 after a long illness.
She was a life long resident of the Hurricane area and was a caregiver before becoming disabled. She was preceded in death by her Son, Curtis Forsback, Grandmother Bonnie Fitch, friend Curtis Sowards and special Aunt Linda Horn.
She is survived by her daughter Tiffany (Charley) McCallister; sons, Landon Cobb and Lake Cobb; bonus daughter, Lisa (Brandon) Carpenter, Companion Rodney Cobb; grandchildren, Molly Newman, Bentley Joe McCallister and bonus grandson John-Michael Carpenter; mother, Teresa Forsbach (Arthur Lovejoy); brother, Donnie Fitch; special cousins Tammy Reavis and Linzie Reynolds; several cousins, aunts, uncles and special friends Homer McCallister and Brian “Dip Dog” Moore.
Graveside service was Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Sharon Alice Jackson
Sharon Alice Jackson, 70, of Scott Depot, passed away peacefully from the arms of her loving family into the loving arms of her Lord on Saturday, March 20, 2021.
Born September 30, 1950 in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late Robert Pierson and Ida Elfrida Anderson Dice. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Robert Dice and her high school sweetheart and husband of 42 years, Carson Henry “Pete” Jackson.
Sharon was a 1968 graduate of Man High School and attained her Bachelor of Education degree from Marshall University. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher, mostly 3rd and 5th grades, in Logan County and also at St. Joseph’s Central Elementary School, Huntington. She delighted in the fact that many of her children’s friends and former students continually thought of her as a mother to them. She enjoyed time with her family and friends, always caring for others. She liked beach trips, shopping and was amazing with various crafts. She was a member of Bruce McDonald United Memorial Methodist Church, Man and Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Scott Depot.
Surviving are her children, Stephanie Jackson Plumley (Donny) of Barboursville, Christopher Carson Jackson (Jessica) of Scott Depot, Alice “Andi” Jackson Jordan (Matt) of Hurricane; grandchildren, Jackson and Bradley Zenteno, Drew, Carson and Trevor Jordan, Landon and Trent Jackson as well as her furry companion, Haley.
Funeral service was Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Good Shepherd Baptist Church with Pastor Travis Rucker officiating. Entombment was in Highland Memory Gardens, Chapmanville.
Barbara J. McClanahan
Barbara J. McClanahan, 69, of Poca, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.
Born July 7, 1951, in Nitro, she was a daughter of the late Lonard and Elizabeth Craigo Gibson. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marrietta Workman and her beloved husband, Daniel “Danny” McClanahan.
Barb was a 1969 graduate of Poca High School and a 1986 graduate of Garnet Career College where she obtained her LPN accreditation. She was a member of Bancroft Church of God Mission where she was active with the Faithful Friends group. Sharing her love of music, she was a well-known member of the gospel groups, Junior Missionettes, Missionettes, Gospel Generations and Voices of Victory.
Barb is survived by her children, Emily King (Arden) and Jason McClanahan (Jenny) of Poca; sister, Jerry Bailey (Lee) of Black Betsy; brothers, Rocky Gibson (Karen) of Bancroft; grandchildren, Austin King (Ashley), Jacob and Jackson McClanahan as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and her faithful sidekick, Lokee.
Funeral service was Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Bancroft Church of God Mission with Pastor James M. Legg, Jr. officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
Sandra Sue Mercer
Sandra Sue Mercer gained her wings on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a long illness and multiple surgeries.
Mom was born July 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Glenwood and Edith Racer Hodges. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey and her first-born son, Randy. Mom was the youngest and last surviving child of Edith and Glenwood, having also been preceded by eight sisters and three brothers, Theresa, Helen, Sylvia, Zula, Phyllis, Dottie, Essie-Joan, Betty, Milford, Douglas and Jerry.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Neeley (Terry) and son, Jeffrey Mercer (Diane); grandson, Korey Neeley and granddaughter, Kayla Neeley as well as extended great-grandkids, Bryce, Adelise and Collette.
Mom was lovingly referred to as Aunt Susie by her many nieces and nephews and Maw-maw to many of the children in the family. She rarely missed a birthday, wedding or other special occasion and her greatest joy was spending time with family and enjoyed cooking large meals for them, she was an excellent cook. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Funeral service was Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
Shirley Gene Sigman
Shirley Gene Sigman, 82, of Liberty, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Teays Valley Center following a short illness. He was a graduate of Poca High School and retired from the WV Department of Highways with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Grandview Baptist Church and served the church in several different roles over the years. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the NRA.
Born August 17, 1938, in Red House, he was the son of the late Mason and Estella Sigman. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Libbie Sigman; daughters, Tammi (Ron) Garton of Charleston and Genella (Matt) Meadows of Culloden; son, Matt (Vickie) Sigman of Hampton SC; grandchildren, Taryn Grace Garton, Makayla Meadows, Megan Meadows, Mason Sigman, Brooke Gibson and Brice Gibson.
Funeral service was Friday, March 19, 2021, at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Woody Willard and Pastor Clifford Curry officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
James Lee Sizemore
James Lee Sizemore, age 56, went to be with the lord on March 15, 2021. He was born in Charleston.
He was a graduate of Hurricane High School and attended West Virginia State College. Was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane, and a member of St. john Episcopal Church in Charleston. He was a former employer of Toys “R Us”, Hardee’s, Krispy Kreme Donuts and was currently employed by CVS Pharmacy in Charleston. James is survived by His parents Roy and Pat Sizemore.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Juanita Whittington
Juanita J. Burgess Whittington, 77, of Buffalo, departed to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, in the Hubbard Hospice House West.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents Okel and Zaddie Pauley Burgess; brothers Natchie “Red” Burgess and Louie Dale Burgess; sister Judy Burdette and special friend Thomas Moore.
She is survived by her husband Herbert Whittington, Jr. of Buffalo; son John Randolph and wife Michele of Nebraska; daughters Corrine Randolph of Elkview, Verssie Randolph of Jacksonville, FL and Loretta Rhodes of St. Albans; step-children Ralph Randolph, Diane Cobb, William Randolph, Herbert Whittington, Crystal Rousch, Jason Whittington and Carol Campbell; sisters Edna Boner of Kenna, Brenda and husband Randy Stump; of Birch River, Connie and husband Tom Jordan of Highland, IN and Elizabeth and husband Bill Barnett of Leon; brothers Roger and wife Joyce Burgess of Cottageville and Gordon and wife Linda Burgess Dalton of OH; 10 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
A private service will be scheduled at a later date.
Terry David Wilson
Terry David Wilson, 71, of Poca, passed away March 14, 2021.
Terry was retired form DOW/Greenwood and a graduate of Poca High School. He was an avid bowler, golfer and enjoyed playing cards. Terry was an Army Veteran and a member of Raymond City Church. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and helping others with home repairs.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Rebecca Wilson and brothers Paul “Bo” and Timothy Wilson.
Terry is survived by his children, Carl Wilson, Rebekah Wilson Hoh and Jacob (Crista) Wilson; stepson Matthew Tallman; brothers Stephen and Roger Wilson; sisters Barbara (Rick) Withrow and Patricia (Ted) Peplow and two grandchildren Domenick Hoh and Eleanor Wilson.
A tribute to the life of Mr. Terry Wilson was held Friday, March 19, 2021, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Keith Monday and Rick Withrow officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens.
