Thomas Abnathy
Thomas Elliott Abnathy, 78, of Poca, transitioned from this life into the next on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at his residence. Thomas was married to Sandra L. Carter Abnathy for fifty-six beautiful years and together they had four children.
Thomas was a Navy veteran who retired from Nokia (ATT) as a communications technician. He was a graduate of the HBCU WV State and was a member of Ananda Marga for fifty years. Thomas was a sponge for knowledge and an avid reader, chess player, yoga teacher, karate instructor, guitar player, and second-degree black belt. His faith in God and love for family and friends was a bright spot to us all. He never met a stranger. His signature greeting was “Hey Buddy”. To him, every person in the world was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. Thomas could make you laugh with one of his jokes or have a thought-provoking conversation that could redefine your outlook on life.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, George T. and Elayne Abnathy.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Sandra L. Abnathy, sons; Thomas E. Abnathy, Jr., Lakeland, FL, and Charles B. Abnathy, Poca, WV, daughters; Lori Abnathy, and Carin Abnathy, both of Tampa, FL, sister, Carol Abnathy, Washington, D.C., seven grandchildren and numerous family and friends.
Gravesde service was Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery, Dunbar.

Alice Alford
Alice Lorraine Adkins Alford, 96, of Poca, went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2021, at her residence with her family by her side.
Mrs. Alford is preceded in death by her late husband of 57 years, Roy Washington Alford, Jr.
Alice was born in Boone County to the late C. Frazier and Myrtle Adkins. She began her teaching career in Boone County and Michigan and then came to Poca High School in 1947 and taught for 38 years, retiring in 1985. She founded PHS Future Business Leaders of America Club, served as member and officer in Southern Business Education Association, member of Phi Delta Kappa Education honorary society and was a member of Putnam County Association of Retired School Employees. Alice was a member of Poca United Methodist Church and was always found supporting her late husband in all his positions with the Lions Club.
Alice is survived by her daughters Clora Craigo and Charlene and her husband Glen Lovejoy and grandson Anthony Lovejoy.
A tribute to the life of Mrs. Alice Alford was held Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Mason officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens.

Grace Lee Barnett
Grace Lee Barnett, 98 of Hurricane, formerly of Sutton and Clarksburg, passed away on March 24, 2021.
Born March 6, 1923 in Gassaway, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ira Barnett and sisters, Olive Crites and Mary Vernon of Clarksburg.
She is survived by her two sisters, Clara Carmichael, with whom she made her home and Louella Jean Daniel of California and brother, James Singleton of California. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Grace lived a long and useful life, always caring for others. When her mother passed away at the age of 45, Grace took responsibility of caring for her two younger sisters and brother. She was an avid bowler and had many trophies to show. Her greatest love was sewing. She spent hours piecing quilt tops. If you were lucky enough to receive one of her quilts, you were very special to her because they were a work of love. She was a member of Gateway Christian Church-Teays Valley.
Funeral service was Saturday March 27, 2021 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Tim Hall officiating. She was laid to rest by her beloved husband at Barnett Memorial Cemetery, Sutton.

Lois Childers
Lois Hodges Wheeler Childers, 87, of Hurricane, peacefully departed this life on March 27, 2021. Lois was the daughter of the late Lyle E. and Genevieve Foster Hodges. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Lowell Thomas Wheeler and her second husband William Robert “Bob” Childers also a brother Joe E. Hodges.
Lois is survived by her sister, Monna Lou Hodges Manning and her husband Jerry of Hurricane. Also stepchildren Wayne Childers (Marsha), Gary Lee Childers of Scott Depot, Jim Childers (Laura) of Golden Valley, AZ., Kay Dooley and Faye Flippin (Bob) of Hurricane, and several nieces and nephews.
Lois was a Christian and a member of the Main Street Church of Christ. She retired from Union Carbide Corp. at the Institute Plant.
Funeral service was Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Allen Funeral Home with Minister D. J. Curry officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.

Nancy Edith Lebolt
Nancy Edith Lebolt, 70, of Hurricane, passed away on March 25, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father James Nelson Leach, her mother Myrtle Louise Leach, and a sister Patricia Massey.
She is survived by her husband William, son Dr. James Lebolt (wife Kelly), daughter Jennifer Lebolt Gibson (husband Tony), daughter Amanda Lebolt and grandchildren Chase, Peyton, Alysse, Caroline; sisters Ruthie Chestnut, Sue Argabright, and Sherri McCracken as well as many nieces and nephews. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
A graveside service was held.

Shirley Lee Lett
Shirley Lee Lett, 84, of Poca, passed away March 28, 2021.
Shirley was a retried Concrete Mason and had previously worked for Labors Local # 1353 and in the Coal Mines. Shirley will always be remembered as being a quiet man but a hard worker who would help anyone.
He is preceded in death by his daughters Susan Harper and Rhonda Lett.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mrs. Bertie Lett; daughter Tammy Landers; son Danny Lett and wife Melanie; brother Gene Lett; sister Mary Cremeans; 3 grandsons; 4 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
At this time there will be no services.

Mark B. Saunders
Mark B. Saunders, 64, of Hurricane, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 after a short illness. He was a graduate of Hurricane High School class of 1974 and a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed Steel fabrication, NASCAR, fishing and spending time with his kids.
He is survived by wife Ginger, daughters Madison and Macy and sister Jane Saunders all of Hurricane and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation was held Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Allen Funeral Home.

Mark D. Thompson
Mark D. Thompson, 58, of Hurricane, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 after a long illness.
He was a mechanic and loved working on cars. He is survived by his mother and stepfather Carole and Jim Carte of Hurricane; brother, Scott Cook of Buffalo; stepbrother Mike Carte and stepsister Arlene Schaeffer.
Graveside funeral service was Monday, March 29, 2021, at Haven of Rest Cemetery Red House.

Jo Ellen Withrow
Jo Ellen Stover Withrow, 85, of Hometown, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at home.
She was a graduate of Dunbar High School and attended Morris Harvey College. She was a Christian first and a wonderful lady.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Jackie Lee Withrow, Sr.; daughter Julie Ann Bonnett; parents Harry and Iva Stover; brother Harry Wayne Stover and her sister Peggy Hitt.
She is survived by her sons Jack (Rose) Withrow of Evans and Rick (Barbie) Withrow of Poca; daughter Connie Withrow of Hometown; sister Judy Pauley; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A tribute to the life of Mrs. Jo Ellen Withrow was held Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with her sons Rev. Jackie L. Withrow, Jr. and Rickie A. Withrow officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens.

Margaret E. Wyrick
Margaret E. Wyrick, 80, of Teays, WV passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 in St. Mary’s Hospital after long illness. She was a Member of the Main Street Church of Christ also a long-time member of the TOPs club. Margaret was the wife of Bob Wyrick for 59 years and is also survived by daughter Mary Anne Coonrod of Hurricane grandson Timothy R. Coonrod of Nitro and granddaughter Amanda Farley of Barboursville. Brother Gene Wendell of Culloden and sister-in-law Nina Miller and Cliff of Oklahoma City, brother-in-law Ward Wyrick of St. Albans. Several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service will be 1:00 Saturday, April 3, 2021 in Mt. Vernon Cemetery with Minister D. J. Curry officiating.

Lisa Ann Young
Lisa Ann Young, 55, of Red House, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021, at her home following a sudden illness.
She was preceded in death by her father, Franklin D. Bailey.
She is survived by her mother, Nadine (Jerry) Holt of St. Albans; her husband of 40 years, Samuel F. Young; children, Jessica (Kent) Brock of Red House, Samantha Young of Cross Lanes, and Tyler Young of Red House; grandchildren, Kelsey Brock, Alyssa Brock, Kailey Young and Jayden Jeffers; brother, Frank Bailey of Glasgow KY and sister, Emmadine (Mike). Lisa is also survived by two step brothers and one step sister.
Funeral service was Friday March 26, 2021, at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Randy Parsons officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
