This trail event is a tribute to local hero, Cpl. Williams B. Fulks, who was assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

On May 1, 2006, Cpl Fulks was wounded while conducting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq by an improvised explosive device (IED) which detonated beneath his Humvee near Fallujah. The blast inflicted second and third degree burns along with massive internal injuries. Cpl. Fulks succumbed to his wounds on Thursday, 18 May 2006 – just three days after his 23rd birthday. The proceeds from this race will support this local Marine Corps League Detachment in its pursuit to serve veterans of our community.
