Darrell C. Boggess
Darrell C. Boggess, 84, of Leon, peacefully passed on Friday, May 7, 2021 after a long illness.
Born November 29, 1936 in Nitro, Darrell was a son of the late Millard and Murriel Boggess. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Boggess; siblings, Sterling Boggess and Helen Stone Croson.
Darrell retired from Allied Signal, Nitro after 27 years of faithful service. Following retirement, he followed his passion and was a farmer for many years.
He is survived by his children, Kevin Boggess (Jacqueline) of Midway, Gary Boggess (Vicki) of Hometown, Terry Boggess of Miami, Arizona, Mark Boggess (Angelia) of Hometown and Diane Lester of Hometown; siblings, Brenda Persinger (Carl) of Hometown, Harold “Mack” Boggess and Millard “Kayo” Boggess; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Graveside service was Tuesday, May 11, at Center Point Cemetery, Liberty. Darrell was laid to rest beside his wife Charlotte.

David Lee Brafford
David Lee Brafford, 66, of Hurricane, passed away at home after a long illness. He loved fishing, camping, his old car but mostly his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons David Brafford of South Charleston and Matthew Brafford of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; daughter Tara Eaves of Kingsport, TN; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and his best friend Gregory Goff of Hurricane.
The family would like to thank St. Mary’s Home Health for all their care and support. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gillis Bryant
Gillis F. Bryant, 87, of Hurricane, left this world for his heavenly home on May 8, 2021.
He served his country with 10 years in the Army as well as 3 Honorable Discharges.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Jacqueline Bryant of Hurricane and 5 daughters: Shelia Rene Trimble, Deborah (Archie) Thompson, Kay (David) Stutler, Laura Cox and Tracey Assi Snyder (Jayson). Sister Karen Nicholas (Van) of St. Albans.
Gillis made his mark on this world with 11 Grandchildren, 17 Great-Grand Children and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Gillis loved to fish with Gordon Sheets and camp with his family. He had a close cousin Gordon Johnson and closest friends Denver Grant and Rick Nye. Gillis had a loving caregiver Cindy Royer and a favorite companion, his dog Jasper.
Funeral service was Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial with Military honors was in the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.

Virginia Jane Dalton
Virginia Jane McGrew Dalton passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021 as a resident of Bellaire@ Devonshire in Scott Depot, WV. Born January 19, 1925, Ginny, with great determination lived to be 96 years old! Ginny grew up in Charleston, WV spending most of her adult years in Vienna, VA and Ocean Pines, MD. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell L. Dalton, Jr., son Russell L. Dalton III, parents Hobart D. McGrew, Freda M. McGrew, sister Sue (Don) Garrett and nephew Dennis Garrett.
She is survived by her daughters Francie Dalton, Peggy (Tom) Allen, nephews Jeff (Cindy) Garrett, Steve (Mariana) Garrett and niece Jane Held (Don) Collins. Ginny had 6 grandchildren: Julie Dalton, Laurie (Greg) Jarrett, Thomas (Kathryn) Allen, Russell (Sami) Allen, Jameson (Allison) Allen and Valerie (Mark) Duvick. Additionally, she had 13 great grandchildren, one great nephew, William (Ashley) Held and one great niece, Katherine Held.
Funeral service will be 10:30 Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home, Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Beverly Gail Faulkner
Beverly Gail Johnson Faulkner, 74, of St. Albans, passed away peacefully May 9, 2021 at CAMC General. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and best friend. She was preceded in death by her by her parents Sallie Johnson and Charley Johnson, sisters Janice McCallister, Martha Mae Davis, Mary Alford and Ethel Guthrie.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years Ernest L. Faulkner; daughter Tina Faulkner; sons David Faulkner and Billy Faulkner; grandchildren Dylan Martin, Shambra Faulkner, Dakota Faulkner and Olivia Faulkner; sister Justine Thomas; brothers Danny (Lois) Johnson and Terry (Judy) Johnson; and several nieces and nephews and her 4-legged baby girl Ginger.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 14, 2021, at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Timmy Shull officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 til 8 on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home.

Rosana Maria Hichney
Rosana Maria Hichney, 85, of Hurricane, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021.
She was born on August 18, 1935 to the late, Jose Maximino Lucero and Frances Gallegos in LaGrito, Colorado.
Rosana was retired from the State of West Virginia. She was a member of the Women’s Club where she developed many lasting friendships. Rosana loved tap dancing, and was an amazing and talented painter. Her beautiful paintings were her pride and joy.
Of all the things Rosanna loved, spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her favorite. She always planned the family vacations and always made sure everyone knew, “The bus leaves at 8!”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second mother, Tillie Lucero; brothers, Gilbert and Chris Lucero; sister, Julia Davies; and grandson, Cory Allen Burgess.
Rosana is survived by her husband, Charles B Hichney; sons, Allen Lee Burgess (Gayla) from Florida, Randall Hichney; grandchildren, Brandon Lee Burgess and Brittany Nicole Grim (Brian); great-grandchildren, Adrianna Burgess, Cayden Gram and “KY” Kyden Gram; sisters, Anita Palacios (Robert) from Helper, Utah, Mary Rascon (Raul) from Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Christina Riche (Derald) from Price, Utah; and brother, Arsenio Marquez (Ruby) from Espanola, NM.
Funeral service was Wednesday, May 12, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Reverend Pete Thompson officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

David Emory Jeffries
David Emory Jeffries, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
He was born in 1942 in Rockcastle and was a longtime resident of Buffalo. He was a child of God, a devoted Christian and was a member of Bancroft Church of God Mission for over 28 years. David graduated from Ripley High School in 1959. He was a farmer, mail carrier and a lifelong mechanic working at Viscose, Jefferd’s and retired from Ravenswood Aluminum. After retiring, he kept busy with raising the best garden around and spending time with friends and helping them with their lawnmowers and other equipment. It was often said, “If David Jeffries can’t fix it, then it can’t be fixed!” He had a very kind heart, quick wit and enjoyed making people laugh. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
David Emory was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years and the love of his life, Shirley Anne (Null) Jeffries; his parents, Darnell and Hazel (Sayre) Jeffries.
He is survived by his two sons, Tom and Kathy Jeffries of Indiana and Kevin Jeffries of Buffalo; daughter, Sherry and Dennis Arthur of Poca; four grandchildren: Kristina and Tabitha Jeffries of Pennsylvania, David Brandon and Elizabeth Jeffries of Wisconsin, Molly Arthur of Poca and Shawn Arthur of Poca; two great grandchildren, Maeve and Ellis Jeffries of Wisconsin; siblings, Roberta Cossin, Juanita and Roy Hoffman and Avory and Jean Ann Jeffries.
Funeral service was Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Bancroft Church of God Mission with Pastor James Legg and Frank Allen Jr. officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.

Phillip Scott Nisbet
Phillip Scott Nisbet, born February 22, 1985, died May 4, 2021 after a long illness with chronic pain and a battle with depression.
Phillip was a unique person, straight out of a comic book, always there when you needed him. He was great for a laugh, was an even better friend, brother and son.
He was a loved son, brother, uncle, father and will be deeply missed!
He lived with his mother Teresa Nisbet of Nitro. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Guy L. Nisbet Jr. and Modina S. Nisbet. He was also preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Guy L. Nisbet Sr. and Martha B. Nisbet.
He is survived by his mother, Teresa Nisbet of Nitro; sister Medina Nicole Nisbet and Jody Henson of Fraziers Bottom; brother Bryant Alan Nisbet (Crystal Nisbet) of Sissonville. Also surviving are his best friends, but just like brothers, Matt Pauley of Winfield and Zac White of Huntington; son, Phillip Scott Nisbet Jr. (mother: Erica Marree Curry) and his nephew Caden Michael Wayne Richmond, several aunts, uncles , cousins and far too many friends to mention.

Thomas Edward Rhodes
Thomas Edward “Eddie” Rhodes, 65, of Hometown, passed away on May 9, 2021. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Dorothy Rhodes; brother, Raymond Washington and sister Martha Francisco.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 41 years Clara; son, Jason and wife Stacy of Eleanor; daughter, Melissa Schoolcraft and husband Robert of Poca; grandchildren, Thomas “Luke” Rhodes, Lauren Rhodes, Beau Rhodes, Dylan Mendenhall all of Poca; brothers James Washington and wife Linda and Johnny Washington and wife Polly all of Cross Lanes; and sister, Margaret Scott and husband Eugene of Red House.
Eddie proudly served in the US Marine Corps. After serving our country Eddie became a member of the WV Laborers Local 1353 in 1979. Eddie was known to his co-workers as “Buzzy” and was a proud union worker and retired after 41 years of employment.
Eddie loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and growing his garden.
A tribute to the life of Eddie was held Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Hometown Apostolic Church with Pastor Joey Sites officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens in Red House.

Kent Frederick Stewart
Kent Frederick Stewart, 63, of Hurricane, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at home after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hal and Phyllis Stewart and brother Gregory.
Kent is survived by his brother Mark (Angela) Stewart and his nephew Blake Stewart as well as other extended family members.
He was a member of the Hurricane High School class of 1976. He will fondly be remembered by many friends and co-workers.
Funeral service was Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Allen Funeral Home with Minister Jack Gilchrist officiating.
