Obituaries for Week of December 23

SHARON SUE COCHRAN
Sharon Sue Cochran, 73, of Hometown, passed away December 19, 2021.
Sharon is a graduate of Poca High School and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a loyal friend to all.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jonah and Erna Thornton.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Roger Cochran; two children Rod Cochran of Hometown and Veronica and her husband Jeff Diehl of Scott Depot; four grandchildren Flint and Joni Cochran both of Hometown, Heath and his wife Rachel Diehl of Scott Depot and Harris Diehl of Scott Depot and three great grandchildren Brandon, Bella and Emma.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 PM Monday December 27, 2021 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel. Private burial will be in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens.

LOIS ANN COSSIN
Lois Ann Cossin, 79, of Leon, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at her home following a long illness. She was a longtime member of Buffalo Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Launa Sayre. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee Cossin; brothers, Orville Sayre and Delmer Sayre.
Survivors include her sons, Rick (Martha) Cossin and Rodney (Terri) Cossin; grandchildren, Leah (Zac) Mallett, Andrea (Jon) Meadows, Brandon Cossin and Brittany (Joey) Hall; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Darletta) Sayre of Ohio. Lois is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, close friends and church family.
Funeral service was Friday, December 17, 2021 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Doug Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Leon.

DONALD GARRISON
Donald L. “Goony” Garrison, 72, of Arab, Alabama, formerly of Grandview Ridge, Buffalo, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 12, 2021. He was a United States Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War. Donald was a Christian and faithfully served the Lord. He pastored several local churches in the area. He loved life and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Violet Garrison and a sister, Jeanette Warner.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara “Bobbie” Garrison; his fur baby and best friend, Abby; sisters, Gloria Combs, Barbara Garrison and Terri (Mike) Frye; sister in law, Donna Hawley and a host of nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, Donald was cremated. A memorial service was held Friday, December 17, 2021 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Rev. Nathan Morris officiating.

LARRY LANDERS
Larry David Landers, 54 of Poca, passed away December 18, 2021.
Larry was a retired auto mechanic and delivered newspapers for the Charleston Gazette-Mail.
He is preceded in death by his parents Hoot and June Landers and five brothers Billy Joe, Arthur Dayton, Pick, Wayne and Gary.
He is survived by his two children D.J. Landers and Natalie Landers; step-son Michael Johnson; step granddaughter Autumn Fogel and a host of nieces and nephews.
At his request there will be no services.

JUSTINE McCALLISTER
Justine Stickler McCallister, 92, of Hurricane passed away December 16, 2021 at her home after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Ruby Stickler.
Mrs. McCallister retired from the West Virginia Department of Rehabilitation and was a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Hurricane. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Nello McCallister. She is survived by cousins, nephew and nieces.
Funeral service was Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with Rev. Dr. John D. Smith ociating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane

DEMPSEY RAY SOVINE
Dempsey Ray Sovine, 95, of Culloden, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 9, 2021. He was born March 26, 1926, in Putnam County, a son of the late William Arnold Sovine and Glenna Martin Sovine.
He is also preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Sovine; two brothers, Iman Sovine and Denville Sovine; and by one sister, Dolly Meadows. He is survived by two daughters, Drema Sovine and Beverly Gillenwater (Roy); four grandchildren, Jeremy Sovine, Matt Sovine, Darrin Gillenwater and Mark Gillenwater; and by one daughter-in-law, Paula Sovine.
Gravewside service was Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane, with Pastor James Jobe officiating.

JOSEPH WHITMAN
Joseph Daniel Whitman was born on October 8, 1973 and he went home to be with our Lord, on December 16, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Paulette McClure; his dear friend, Chuck Conley and his beloved daughter: Sophie Grace Whitman.
Joe was a member of Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, MD., as well as a member of Putnam Masonic Lodge #139 A.F. & A. M. Hurricane.
He was known for his many athletic accomplishments in his youth, which he used his passion for sports to coach and mentor his children throughout their lives. He felt most free riding his Harley with his brothers and spending time with his family. He was always there to provide a warm smile, helping hand, and a good laugh.
Joe is survived by his daughters: Ali Joe and Abby Marie (Zach Flenner); his sons: Wyatt Joseph and James Mason; former wife: Natalie Whitman; parental figures: Larry and Diana Adkins; grandmother: Vonda McClure; sister: Kelly (Scott) Tester; and his brothers in Christ: James, Nathan and Travis Samples.
A memorial service celebrating his life was held Monday, December 20, 2021 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane.
