Wagon Rides Made Hurricane the Place to Be on Saturday

Every Saturday in Hurricane between Thanksgiving and Christmas has featured something special. On November 27, it was Small Business Saturday. On December 4, Yuletide at the Park came to Valley Park. Next week was the Christmas Parade. This last Saturday, December 18, the City provided horse-drawn wagon rides.

Youngsters of every age enjoyed the circuitous route from the Putnam County Bank parking lot on Main Street, across the overhead railroad bridge, down Putnam Avenue, through the railroad underpass and back to the bank. The wagon rides were provided by Mike Roach of LeSage. This is the first time that the City of Hurricane has ever hosted wagon rides throughout the town.

My Messy Desk, a crafting and creative venue on Dudding Avenue, hosted a drop-in ornament making class during Saturday’s festivities. The class was sponsored and paid for by the City of Hurricane. Children had a variety of wooden ornaments to paint and embellish with various trimmings and trappings. Liz Giertz, owner of My Messy Desk and craft instructor, said that the shop offered “all the glitter and sequins a kid would want.”

Rosewood, a newly formed musical group from Hurricane, performed throughout the event at Drip Café on Main Street. The band, which is composed of John Aiello, Stephanie McCoy, and Joey Johnson, plays a variety of acoustic soft rock from the 1960’s, 70’s, and 80’s.
