Obituaries for Week of February 24

MARGARET E. CLARK
Margaret E. Clark, 81, of Leon, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, OH following a short illness. She was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School.
Born March 21, 1940 in Mason county, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Flaura Schultz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Buddy” Clark; sister, Helen Schultz; and brother, Howard Raymond Schultz.
She is survived by her daughter, Raquel Ann Beaver of Gallipolis; and her son, Raymond Owen Clark of Leon; as well as extended family and friends.
A private family graveside service will be held at Creston Cemetery, Leon.

HARVEY CRAIGO
Harvey Dale Craigo, 86, of St. Albans, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022. He was born December 18, 1935 in Putnam County, West Virginia, the son of the late Arnie and Naomi Craigo. His wife Betty Craigo also preceded him in death along with two brothers, Edsel and Denzil Craigo and one sister, Sharon Leighton.
Harvey was a retired body shop foreman with Park Pontiac/Vince Paterno with thirty plus years of service. He also spent several years working for Better Foods, Inc. He was a proud member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodges 1444 in Charleston and 868 in St. Albans. Harvey was a lifelong outdoorsman who spent many days hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He was blessed to spend his last first day of hunting at deer camp with his son, grandsons and friends.
Survivors include one son, Arnie (Julie) Craigo of Nitro; two daughters, Shirley Lucier-Craigo of Dunbar and Cheryl Craigo of St. Albans, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving is one brother, Oshel Craigo of Winfield; one sister Luanna Higginbotham of St. Albans; many nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
Harvey selflessly donated his body to the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine for the advancement of science and education. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

ELMA HORNISH
Elma Lee Deal Hornish, 81, of Poca, went home to be with the Lord on February 16, 2022.
Elma was the founder of the Heavenly Echo’s Group, serving God’s ministry for over 30 years. She was a member of Lett Creek Community Church and a homemaker and caregiver. She is a retired school bus driver for Putnam County Schools, former manager of Gino’s in Nitro and former cashier at Poca Supermarket.
She is preceded in death by her first husband William Rowley, second husband Gary Hornish; daughter Angel Hornish; mother Esta Stewart; stepfather Denver Stewart and father Willard Deal.
She is survived by her three children Jesse W. and his wife Patricia Rowley of Nitro, Debra E. and her husband Sam Eads of Sissonville, and Mica and his wife Samantha Sneed; sister Wanda Deal of Nitro; eight grandchildren Nash Rowley, Jesse T. Beckner, Jesse L. Rowley, Emma Rowley, Debra L. Taylor, Jessica Harrison, Jennifer Taylor and Kayln Fisher and seven great grandchildren.
A tribute to the life of Elma was held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Arthur officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.

THOMAS HUDSON
Thomas G.” Tommy” Hudson, 68, of Poca, passed away February 15, 2022 at CAMC General following a short illness. He was a graduate of Buffalo High School. Tommy retired from Poca Food Fair with many years of service.
He was the son of the late Charles Hudson and Gaye Y. Hudson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Harper.
Survivors include his son, Adam Hudson of Punta Gorda, FL; brother, Charles F. Hudson of Buffalo; sister, Kimberly Hudson Cobb of Buffalo; nieces, Hailey (Jack) Coffman, Kelsey Cornell, Hannah Cobb; nephew, Tyler Cobb.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

BELINDA POTTER
Belinda Gay Potter, 70, of Poca, passed away February 19, 2022.
Belinda is a 1969 graduate of Poca High School. She played the piano at numerous churches in Putnam County. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, and reading her Bible.
She is preceded in death by her parents George and Margaret Kessell and brothers Norman and Troy Kessell.
She is survived by her two sons Michael and Sarah and Greg and Carrie and their father William Potter; sister Pat Harris; three grandchildren Lauryn, Seth, and Nadea and great granddaughter Amelia. Belinda is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A tribute to the life of Belinda was held Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Humphrey officiating. Burial was in Center Point Cemetery.

CHRISTOPHER RUSSELL
Christopher David Russell, 47, of Kermit, formerly of Nitro, passed away February 16, 2022, at home.
Chris is a graduate of Poca High School and WV State University. He was a drug rehab counselor and an I. T. Technician. He enjoyed writing music and playing his guitar.
He is preceded in death by his father Mark Whikle; grandparents Donald Edward and Betty D. Russell and Betty Whikle and uncles Joe Russell and Edward Russell.
Chris is survived by his daughter Victoria Russell and her mother Bonnie Bridge; his mother Patricia Bailey; step-father David Bailey; girlfriend Lindy Jennings; brothers Bryan (Bobby) Russell and Chris Whikle; sister Sara Browning; aunt Connie Russell and uncles Douglas Edward Russell, Charles Wayne Russell and James Thomas Russell. He is also survived by other family and a host of friends.
A tribute to the life of Chris was held Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor John Henderson officiating.

AMANDA SKAGGS
Amanda Louise Skaggs, 24, of Hurricane, went to be with the Lord suddenly on the morning of February 12, 2022. She was born March 11, 1997 and was raised in Hurricane where she graduated from Hurricane High School. She was an animal lover and also loved her nieces and nephews. She spent most of her days caring and enjoying spending time with her dogs and family. Amanda was very kind and compassionate. Her kindness and contagious laughter will always be remembered by her loved ones.
Amanda was preceded in death by grandparents Diana G. Skaggs, Larry K. Skaggs, and Krellas S. Brock. She is survived by parents Larry K. Skaggs II of Hurricane and Melba R. Davis of Culloden. Also surviving are sisters Sierra Skaggs, Elisabeth Bird and Emily Beaver, bothers Travis Skaggs and Dylan Davis, step father Brent Davis, grandmother Carol Brock, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home with Lafe Meade officiating. Burial was in Sycamore Cemetery in Hurricane.

IVA MAY SNYDER
Iva May Snyder, 74, of Red House, passed away February 18, 2022, at home.
Mrs. Snyder is survived by her husband of 53 years, Mr. Albert Junior Snyder; three children David Lee (Stacy Stover) Snyder, Anna Jane (Greg) Johnson and Steven Lee (Tamara) Snyder; two brothers Keith (Penny) Adkins and Gary Adkins and three grandchildren Rachel Johnson, Sarah Johnson, and Emma-Lee Snyder.
A tribute to the life of Mrs. Iva May Snyder was held Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Woody Willard officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens.

DOUGLAS THACKER
Douglas William Thacker of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on January 20, 2022, after a long illness.
He was born in Hurricane, on July 14, 1952, to Bernard W. and Helen D. Thacker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Nelson Thacker.
He attended Hurricane Schools for most of his primary education, but due to a family move during his senior year, graduated from Boyd County High School in Kentucky. During most of his career, he worked for commercial construction companies in Georgia, then retired as an Estimation Engineer from F.O. Day Company in Rockville, Maryland. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and spent many happy hours on the golf courses and waters in and around Washington, D.C.
Doug is survived by his sister, Barbara Holmes (and Maurice) of Alexandria, Virginia, sister, Melanie Estep of Hurricane, West Virginia, and brother, John of Hurricane, West Virginia. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Pastor Kevin Shull of Milton, West Virginia, grandsons Cole (and Lindsey) Shull of Milton, West Virginia, Caleb Shull of Barboursville, West Virginia, and Andrew Shull of Milton, West Virginia, as well as a great grandson, Brigham Shull, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Doug was Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.

ARBIE LEE WEBB
Arbie Lee Webb, 83, of Winfield, passed away February 19, 2022.
Mr. Webb is retired from Shell Corporation, former councilman for the Town of Winfield and trustee at Winfield United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents Hiram and Arnie Webb.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Ruth Webb; two children Michael and his wife Hope Webb and Timothy Webb; brother Billy Webb; two grandchildren Jared and Erica; five great grandchildren; niece Nisa Erwin and special friend Denny Sanson.
Private services were held and he was entombed at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
