Patrick Cadle, Director of WV County Commissioners Association, was on hand at the June 14 Putnam County Commission meeting to hand out awards to Winfield Middle students Luke Craigo and Nick McDaniel.

The two were winners in the WV County Commissioners Annual 8th Grade Essay Contest. Luke Craigo was the statewide winner and received a $300 check. Nick McDaniel was a $50 winner.

Cadle also recognized Winfield Middle teacher Angie Withrow who enlists her students to participate in the contest each year.

Participation requires a county commissioner to visit a classroom and speak on the duties of a county commissioner and the services which the commission provides. The students then write an essay on how the county commission benefits them.
Craigo wrote on how that he and his siblings benefited from the facilities at Valley Park and the role which the county commission has in supporting law enforcement officers and other first responders.
