JANET ALLISON
Janet Hayes Allison, 85, of Nitro, went home to be with her Lord on July 23, 2022.
She was a member of Raymond City Community Church. She loved Jesus and her family. She loved to color, crochet and loved animals, any type of music especially gospel music. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin Albert and Edith Irene Gaylor Hayes, husband Charles Luther Allison, brothers James, Dallas, and Albert Hayes, sister Aretta Steele, daughters-in-law Ronda Allison, Patty Craig, and Judy Allsion, grandsons Steven Hall and Charlie Allsion II.
She is survived by her sons Dennis and wife Vanessa Hayes of Eleanor, WV and Ron Craig of St. Albans, WV; daughter Trina Thornburg and fiancé Ron Lacy of Tornado, WV; stepsons Charles A. “Chuck” Allison of Minford, OH and Gary E. Allison of Hurricane, WV; sister Wanda Cook of Fort Davis, TX; 10 Grandsons, 3 Granddaughters and multiple great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A tribute to the life of Janet will be 2:00 PM Saturday July 30, 2022 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Speedy Arthur officiating. Burial will follow in Ortin Heights Cemetery, Nitro. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
CLARA BLACKSHIRE
Clara Faye Basham Johnson Blackshire born December 14, 1933, passed from this life to her eternal life July 22, 2022, at 88 years old. She was the daughter of William Arthur and Rena Bessie Basham. She was born and raised in WV on Doc Bailey Road, Cross Lanes. She attended Point Harmony School, Nitro High School and Marshall University. Growing up, she attended Community Chapel Church.
She was the wife of Arliss Glen Blackshire for almost 50 years, who preceded her in death on March 27, 2022. Making their home on Manilla Ridge, Leon. They were members of Hometown Independent Mission in Hometown.
She was the mother of Roger C. Johnson (Margaret) of Ohio. Grandmother of Jimmy Johnson (Barbara) of Ohio and Jordan Johnson of Ohio. Great-grandmother of Aaron and Rylee. Sister of Eva Jean Basham West and William Albert Basham (Peggy). Preceding her in death, sisters Isabell Tinsley and Lonnie Rowsey. She was like a mother to her niece, Carol Lee Tinsley Dahn, and loved her very much. Along with many other nieces and nephews that loved her, and she loved. Being married to Arliss for almost 50 years she had stepsons, Arliss Glen Blackshire Jr., Cork (Tammy) and Steve Blackshire (LeeAnn) and their children and grandchildren that she loved.
Sewing, quilting, hosting family picnics and birthday parties at their farm, going to church and reading a book was the way she enjoyed her life.

WILLIAM CLARK COMBS
William Clark Combs, 86, of Red House, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. He was a Christian and a U.S. Air Force Korean Conflict Veteran. Clark spent several years working as an electrician for Tru Temper and later for the Charleston Housing Authority.
He was the son of the late Bob Combs and Norvella “Mudder” Combs. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Angelia Combs; brothers, Ray, Eugene and Ancil; sister, Eloise “Sis.”
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Denise Combs; children, Teresa Mullins Coleman of Wilmington NC, Rik (Cassie) Combs of Canton OH, Mark (Janice) Combs of Myrtle Beach SC, Cecelia “CeeCee” Painter of Myrtle Beach SC, Charity (Jeremy) Luikart of Red House, Crissy (Eric) Leadman of Milton, Clark Combs of Cherokee NC and Norvella (Justin) Rutan of Red House. Clark is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Funeral service was Monday July 25, 2022 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Leonard Kessell officiating. Burial was in Beane Cemetery, Sissonville.
RICH ELLINGTON
Richard T. (Rich) Ellington, 61, of Teays Valley, passed away on July 18, 2022.
Rich graduated from Dupont High School, class of 1979. He received his undergraduate degree in Accounting from West Virginia State University, and later earned his MBA from the University of Charleston. Professionally, Rich worked as a CPA for Howell and Paterno, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Bell Atlantic, but ultimately retired as a Contract Manager from Verizon. He served as a board member of the Mator’s Kids Foundation, and as a trustee for the FirstBaptist Church of Nitro.
Rich’s greatest joy in life was raising his two sons alongside his wife Sue. He was an active member of the community; serving as a coach, mentor, and fundraiser for numerous boys and girls sports programs. Rich was an avid athlete and participated in several lifelong activities and sports. He was an outgoing friend who created a large network of people from all walks of life that enriched everyone involved. He forged a life full of incredibly diverse experiences, skills, and abilities; a true Renaissance man. Rich was a devout husband, dedicated father, and a true believer in his heavenly father, Jesus Christ.
Rich was preceded in death by his stepfather, John O’Dell, stepfather, William Ellington, and father, Richard Burdette.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years Sue, sons, Ian of Hurlburt Field, FL, and Andy (Ciearra) and their two sons, Kaison and Cade of Culloden; his mother, Clarise O’Dell; sister, Belinda Walker (George); brother, Tim (Susan); sister, Sheri Brown (Greg); brother, Fred (Ivon); father-in-law, Kenneth Phillips (Janet); brother-in-law, Scott Phillips (Martha); and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service for Rich was Saturday, July 23, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Nitro with Dr. Lawrence Hoptry officiating.
DANIEL EUGENE FIZER
Daniel Eugene Fizer, 29, of Culloden, passed away on July 21, 2022. He was born on November 7, 1992.
Daniel is survived by his mother, Traci E. Clark of Culloden; father, Okey Fizer of Culloden; children, Sabrina Fizer and Chase Fizer of Hurricane; siblings, Cheyenne Johnson of Culloden, Brittany Quentrill (Michael) of Charleston and Cathy Fizer (Robert) of Hurricane; and many other extended family and friends.
Graveside Service was Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Sycamore Cemetery, Culloden.
JASON ‘JAKE’ FLICK
Dr. Jason Benjamin “Jake” Flick, 47, of Hurricane, passed away on July 22, 2022.
He was born April 20, 1975 in Sharon, PA, to James and Pamla Flick of Somerset PA. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Sarah Flick of Hurricane; children, Maxwell Flick and Molly Flick, both of Hurricane; sister, Amanda Watkins (Joseph) of Somerset PA; brother, Steven Flick (Kimberly) of Shankville PA; and many other extended family and friends.
Jake was a loving husband, father, brother and son. Jake dedicated his life to serving his country, enlisting in the US Navy, and working as a Clinical Psychologist in the VA Hospital. His motto was “God, Family and Country”. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, etc., and also loved tinkering with mechanical and electrical things. He loved and was proud of his children, and all their accomplishments.
A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, July 29, 2022 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with Pastor James Dennis officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
CAROL RAY HERDMAN
Carol Ray Herdman, 85, of Eleanor, passed away Friday July 22, 2022 at CAMC Teays Valley. He retired from Conrail with 43 years of service.
Born September 7, 1936 in Buffalo he was the son of the late Ray Herdman and Gladys Cochran Dunn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Lee Hanshaw Herdman; sons, Chad Herdman and Larry Ray Herdman; daughter, Karen Herdman; four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his children, June (Lee) Tucker of Leon, Wayne Herdman of Buffalo, Christopher (Kimberly) Herdman of Winfield, Cheryl Herdman (William Danberry) of St. Albans and Charlotte (Shawn) Martin of Midway; brother, John Herdman of Oklahoma. Carol is also survived by 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Graveside service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday July 29, 2022 at Beech Grove Cemetery, Eleanor. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. -12:00 P.M. at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor prior to the graveside service.
ANITA KIRBY
Anita Kirby, 82, of Culloden, went home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Kirby, her parents, Ethel and Bill Young, one brother, two sisters and her grandson Michael Gilfilen. She is survived by a brother and sister and her children, Roger Price, Debbie Durban (Joe), Teresa Slone (Donavan), William Kirby (Denise), and Brett Kirby. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She loved working in her flowerbeds and in her yard and setting at the table with her family.
Funeral service was Monday, July 25, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Smith officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.

Julia V. McCallister, 90, of Culloden, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband Roma McCallister and son Stephen McCallister.
She is survived by her son David (Cheryl) McCallister of McHenry, KY and daughter Debbie Datin of Tarpon, FL and daughter in law Marry McCallister of Fort Wayne, IN and sisters, Barbara Naumann, Elvie Pierce, Elizabeth Adams and Jane Andre.
Funeral service was Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Lafe Meade officiating. Burial was in Culloden Cemetery.
REBECCA ‘TEKE’ NICKERSON
Rebecca “Teke” Alice Nickerson, of Hurricane, passed away on July 20, 2022 at Hubbard Hospice House West, So. Charleston
Teke was a daughter of the late Wilson and Dorothy Davis Bryan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her dog, Maddie and her sister, Patricia L. Jenkins-Fisher.
She was retired from Bell Atlantic after many years of service in the business office and had an enormous love for all animals.
Teke is survived by her loving wife, Sandy Mundy; daughter, Rebecca Hall (Charles) of Franklin Furnace, OH; granddaughters: Jessica Woods (Bobby) of Huntington and Samantha Uys (Neels) of Franklin TN; great granddaughter: Ellie Woods; her fur baby, Molly; and brother, Robert Scott Jenkins (Sandy) of Maryland.
A Memorial Service will be 12:00 noon Friday, July 29, 2022 at St. Timothy’s in the Valley Episcopal Church, 3434 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, with The Rev. Cheryl Winter officiating. Visitation will be from 11-12:00 Noon, Friday July 29, 2022 at the church.

James Stanley “Jimmy” Williams, 60, of Culloden, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston.
Jim was born at Charleston to the late James Franklin and Joann Hall Williams. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Lea Hawkins Williams.
He was employed by Precision Pump and Valve Services, Inc., Cross Lanes.
Surviving is his companion, Roxie Means; children, Matthew (Ali) Hawkins, Jimmy Williams, Jr. (Samantha), Ashley Hawkins (Jose) and Amber Williams (Joey); grandchildren, Trinity, Easton, Layla, Joey, Brandon, Wyatt, Addison, Bryson, Rusti, Jaden, Liam, Alex and Isaac; brothers, Walter Williams and John Williams; sisters, Ann Bishop and Lois Eads.
Funeral service was Monday, July 25, 2022 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Pastor Paul Bailey officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
