PAULA J. BLANKENSHIP
Paula J. Blankenship, 63, of Buffalo, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022 at HospiceCare at C.A.M.C. Memorial. She retired from Putnam County Schools.
She was the daughter of the late Charles and Geraldine Casto. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Gary Kent, Paul Kent Jr. and Allen Ross.
She is survived by her son, Travis Blankenship of Buffalo; daughter, Priscilla Blankenship of Buffalo; sisters, Renea (Joey) Pursley of Ravenswood, Brenda Stone of Cottageville, Patricia (Paul) Blair of Ravenswood and Shirley (Todd) Patterson of Gallipolis OH; grandchildren, Shelby Blankenship, Mason Blankenship, Emmitt Blankenship and Memphis Bragg.
In accordance with her wishes her body will be cremated. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.

ROBERT CROCKETT
Robert “Bob” Dent Crockett, 86, a lifelong resident of Eleanor, passed away on August 14, 2022 at Teays Valley Hospital, Hurricane.
Bob was a son of original homesteaders, Robert and Eva Crockett.
He is survived by his wife, Della Crockett; son, Robert David Crockett of Charleston; sister, Marlane Carr of Eleanor; brother, Joe Crockett of Eleanor; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
In honor of Bob’s wishes, there will not be any formal viewing or service. A Graveside Service for Bob was held Friday, August 19, 2022 at Beech Grove Cemetery, Eleanor.

JONATHON HUFFMAN
Jonathon (Jon) Paul Huffman, 41, departed this life on August 14, 2022, at his home in Teays Valley.
Jon, a former Pennsboro, resident was born January 31,1981 to Lucinda Hilvers Carte. He is the father of his daughter Ava, whom he loved with all his heart. He was a 1999 graduate of Ritchie County High School where he excelled in athletics. Jon was an avid sports fan, golfer and a hard worker.
Jon was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul W. Hilvers.
He is survived by his daughter, Ava Marie Huffman and her mother Alicen Roberts. His mother Lucinda Carte and Joseph Carte. His father, Jamie Mitchem. Adopted Father, James E. Huffman. Grandmother, Norma Hilvers. Siblings: Lucinda Huffman (Zack), Brittany Reynolds (Nathan), Becky Adkins (Brad), Scott Huffman, Shawn Huffman, Katy Carte (Eric), Grace Carte, Mandi Carte, Ben Carte (Olivia), Danielle Smith and Wesley Mitchem. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jon was very blessed with a large and loving family where he was surrounded by many; aunts, great aunts, uncles, great uncles; and an abundance of friends. We will miss his smile, kind soul and loving heart!
Funeral Mass was held Saturday, August 20, at Ascension Catholic Church with Fr. Vincent Joseph as Celebrant.

LYNN HENSLEY
Lynn Carpenter Hensley, 75, of Winfield, passed away August 18, 2022.
She was a daughter of the late Lyle and Dorothy Carpenter of Winfield. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Ann Racer.
Lynn worked as a sales clerk for Elder Beerman. She was very active, and was a lifelong member of Judson Baptist Church. She was a member of the American Baptist Women, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and worked Vacation Bible School.
Lynn was survived by her husband, Roger Hensley of Winfield; son, Steve Hensley (Shelley) of Scott Depot; sisters, Lois Nelson (Nathaniel) of Columbus Ohio and Joyce McCallister (Edward) of Jackson TN; brothers, Dan Carpenter (Darlene) of Mesa AZ and Larry Carpenter (Sharon) of Scott Depot; grandchild, Kristen Hensley of Scott Depot; and many other extended family and friends.
Funeral Service was Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield. Burial was in Winfield Cemetery, Winfield.

NICHOLAS LEE McCORMICK
Nicholas Lee McCormick, 43, of Milton, passed away on August 13, 2022 at his residence. He was born September 1, 1978 in Huntington, a son of Margo Arnold Walker and Roger (Christy) McCormick.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Tori Gibeaut, Jordyn McClanahan and Branson McCormick; paternal grandmother, Betty McCormick; lifelong friend, Sally Sutherland; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many loving friends and co-workers who were also family to him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jessica McClanahan; sister, Hannah Walker; paternal grandfather, Rance McCormick; maternal grandparents, Jim and Mary Arnold. Nick was a graduate of Hurricane High School and graduate from the Le Corden Bleu Culinary Arts. Nick was a loving son, father and was a caring, loving, honest friend. Addiction stole the real Nick, so please cherish your memories of the true Nick. If you know an addict please love them, pray for them but know they have to love themselves to heal. If we could do it for them there wouldn’t be addicts.
A memorial service was held Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Allen Stewart officiating.

LINDA M. PAYNE
Linda M. Payne, 69, of South Charleston, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 at Hubbard Hospice House following a short illness. She was a 1971 graduate of Buffalo High School. Linda retired from CAMC General with several years of service.
She was the daughter of the late Ronald Payne and Minnie Flint Payne. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald Payne and Thomas Payne.
She is survived by her sister, Wanda Winship of South Charleston and her nephew, Matthew Winship of Asheville NC.
Graveside service was Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Payne Family Cemetery, Winfield, with Pastor Gary Blackwell officiating.

HAROLD T. PRITT
Harold was the youngest of three children born to Andrew Jackson and Ethel Ruth Pritt. He was born in Crichton, WV on July 24, 1928. His parents, brother William, sister Magdalene and wife of 52 years, Phyllis Jarrett Pritt and his grandson Christopher Dent all preceded him in death.
He was a lover of the Lord, an ordained minister of the gospel, a lifelong member of the Independent Baptists, and a member of First Baptist Church in Hurricane, where he taught adult Sunday School classes. In his early years he pastored Bethany Baptist Church in Charleston. He was a soul winner, a lover and student of the Bible and enjoyed sharing the Word with all who would listen.
Harold was well-known and respected in his field of chemical engineering at Union Carbide in South Charleston where he worked for over 40 years. He started as an operator in 1951 and went from lab technician to Senior Engineer, Coating and Lining Specialist before retiring in the early 1990’s and becoming a consultant to Union Carbide and others. He was active in the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and chaired the NACE Task group that wrote the first national standard for hopper car linings and also chaired the task group for exterior coatings on rail cars. He finally retired at age 75, a well liked and respected figure in the industry. In his retirement years, he was involved in church work and was an avid West Virginia sports fan.
Harold is survived by his children: Cindy and John Erickson, Lynn and Dr. Randy Spencer, Susan and Edward Dent, Hope and Ric Rieffer, Nathan and Kim Pritt; Debbie and Jeff Allen, Sarah Beth and Larry Hartwell, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and his first wife Patricia Hardy Pritt McCaslin. Also surviving Harold and Phyllis is their beloved Andy, a beautiful Ragdoll kitty.
Funeral service for Harold was Thursday, August 25, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Jeff Davenport and Rev. Dr. Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

BEVERLY J. TERPENING
Beverly J. Terpening, 78, of Nitro, passed away August 18, 2022.
Beverly is a graduate of Winfield High School and a former employee of Wal-Mart.
She is preceded in death by her son Robert Charles Terpening.
She is survived by her two children, Paula Nelson and Ralph Terpening and his wife Melissa; sister Patti Ray Shinn; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
At her request there will be no services.

DEBORAH ANN WALKER
Deborah Ann Walker, 75, of Winfield, passed away August 17, 2022.
She was a daughter of the late Olan and Laura Carr. She is also preceded in death by her birth mother, Louise Queen.
Deborah was very active in her community, being associated with cub scouts, girl scouts, and The Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to be with family, camping, scouting, cooking, and spending time with church family.
Deborah was survived by her husband of 58 years, James Walker of Winfield; children, Jeffrey Walker (Lena) of Scott Depot and Kimberly Nye (Gregory) of Scott Depot; brother, Boe Queen (Becky) of Kimberly, WV; grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Azsha, Courtney, Corrie, Skilar and Karliegh; 8 great grandchildren; and many other extended family and friends.
Funeral Service was Monday, August 22, 2022 at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield. Entombment was in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

CAROLYN ANN WATSON
Carolyn Ann Watson, 83, of Winfield, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on August 21, 2022.
Carolyn was born on February 24, 1939 to Leo Cecil and Nannie Ethel Colwell, of Hurricane. She is a 1957 graduate of Hurricane High School and also a graduate of the Charleston School of Commerce. Carolyn retired from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Tax Department in 2008 with 36 years of dedicated service. She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Nannie Colwell, brother, Bobby Colwell of Illinois, brother-in-laws Joe Kessler and Dick Brewer.
Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Russell L. Watson; sisters: Maxine Kessler of Hurricane and Lois Brewer of Teays Valley; sister-in-law Sally Colwell of Illinois. She is survived by her two children Julie Smith (Bob) of Elkview and Rusty Watson (Denise) of Winfield.
Grandchildren: Travis Massey (Karen) of Martinsburg, Tyler Watson (Jenny) of Scott Depot, Wesley Massey (Jessica) of Scott Depot, and Courtney Scarberry (Josh) of Hurricane. Nan is also loved by her eleven, soon to be twelve, great grandchildren: Isaac, Noah, Graham, Sawyer, Micah, Sam, Harrison, Daniel, Moriah, Jude and Eleanor.
Funeral Service for Carolyn was Thursday, August 25, at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with Pastor Josh Scarberry officiating. Burial was in Winfield Cemetery, Winfield.

NORMAN RICHARD WINTERS
Norman Richard “Ricky” Winters, Jr., 65, of Alkol, formerly of Poca, passed away August 16, 2022, at home.
Ricky is a 1975 graduate of Poca High School and an Artist.
He is preceded in death by his parents Norman and Anna Winters.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Winters; daughter Melissa Jo Lemon; two stepchildren Patricia Grose and Jeffrey Scott Grose, Jr.; grandson William Richard Grose and four sisters Norma Ernest, Brenda Winters, Anita Crites and Sherry Winters.
Burial was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
