Keeping the Channel Clear

The M/V MILTON was on duty monitoring the approach to the Winfield Locks on Friday, September 2nd. The dredging operation was part of a 6-day operation ordered by the Army Corps of Engineers in Huntington.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is tasked with maintaining a minimum navigation channel depth of nine feet in the Kanawha River. The channel depth was just above the 9-foot level on Friday. The rains of Sunday and Monday were sufficient to raise the tailwater level to 13 feet on Tuesday.
