Each Miss Putnam County participant submits a biography for the Putnam Homecoming Program. Miss Dempsy’s biography follows:

Hi, I am Erin Dempsey, representing Hurricane High School at the 93rd Annual Putnam County Homecoming. I am the daughter of Tim and Becky Dempsey and have a younger sister, Kate. As a lifelong resident of Hurricane, I attended West Teays Elementary School, Hurricane Middle School, and am currently a Senior at Hurricane High School.

I am the Hurricane High School Class of 2023 Senior Class President, the President of HHS National Honor Society, the Historian of the Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society), and an active member of Hurricane’s chapter of DECA, where I placed second in the state in Hospitality and Tourism Business Operations Research and advanced to the national Competition this spring in Atlanta, GA. I am a member of the yearbook club, the prom committee, and the Link Team at Hurricane High to help welcome the incoming freshman class and prepare them for their first day of high school.

Along with academic involvement in school, I am a Senior Captain of the Hurricane High School Girls’ Soccer team and will be playing my fourth season. This fall, I will begin playing my fourth year on the HHS Girls’ Basketball team. I also play travel basketball for the WV (West Virginia) Impact.

I have participated in various community service projects throughout my high school career. Some organizations I have volunteered with include the Brian Fox Endowed Scholarship and the Long Live Will Washburn foundation. This year, as the President of the National Honor Society, I have selected Putnam Shoes for Children as my charity to support. Putnam Shoes for Children is a non-profit organization that donates hundreds of pairs of shoes to children in need across Putnam County.

Outside of school, I am an active member of the Ascension Catholic Church, where I am a member of Life Teen, which is a religious education group for high school students. I also volunteer to help teach EDGE, a religious education class for middle school students.

Throughout the summer, I work as a lifeguard at FMC pool. After graduation from Hurricane High School, I plan to attend West Virginia University and study political science with hopes of going to law school.
