Putnam County election results mirrored the statewide vote with Republicans dominating. In the County Commission contest, former Sheriff Steve Deweese easily defeated former County Commissioner Jim Withrow in the only county race which offered a Democratic Party candidate.
Only result in which Putnam differed from statewide preference was Constitutional Amendment No. 3, Church Incorporation. County voters gave the amendment 54% approval. Statewide the amendment received 45% approval. Putnam voters said “No!” to Amendments No.s 1, 2 and 4. Putnam’s disapproval of these amendments was not nearly as high as expressed statewide. Statewide and Putnam disapproval rates were: No. 1 – 58% and 54%, No. 2 – 66% and 57%, and No. 4 – 65% and 53%.
Putnam voters gave the Special Fire and Ambulance Levy 52% of the vote. A 60% approval is required for non-school levies.
Residents of Bancroft, Buffalo, Poca, and Winfield also voted for Mayor, Recorder and Council. Bancroft elected Jami Beth Echols-Hayes, John Hackett, Bethany Adkins, Jaycob Phillips and Thomas Frame to Council (the only contested race). Buffalo elected Conrad Cain to Mayor, and Barbara Johns Reed, Gary Tucker, Sean Errett, Charley Cain and Doug Pierson to Council in the contested races. Poca elected Shawn Milam, Matt West, Drema Ward, Veronica Dale Parkins, and Helen Martin to Council. All candidates in the Winfield election were unopposed.
The turnout was 43.6% with 16,877 of Putnam’s 38,729 registered voters castinhg ballots. Complete Putnam Election results follow:
