Community Calendar for Week of January 5

JANUARY 6 – 7
The 35th annual Toughman Contest is coming to the Mountain Health Arena in Huntington. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $30.

JANUARY 10
Josh DeGroff from Enliven Financial will be at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 6 p.m. to discuss financial plans.

JANUARY 13
There will be a foam dance party for children ages 7-14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $8 per child.

JANUARY 14
The Salt & Light Food Pantry will be holding a distribution day from 9 a.m. to noon at the Winfield Nazarene Church, 10822 Winfield Raod. Bring a photo ID.
Community Autism Resources & Education Systems (CARES) will be holding a swim day from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tri-County YMCA in Scott Depot. For more information, call (304) 964-3274.
Putnam United FC Youth Soccer Team will be holding a Competitive Roster Spring Tryout from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. Open to birth years 2008-2016.

Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US Route 60, Hurricane, will be holding a drive thru food pantry from 9 to 11 a.m.

JANUARY 15
The 2023 Charleston Wedding Expo & Fashion Show will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Charleston Convention Center. Admission is $10.
Third Sunday Board Games will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn in Teays Valley.

JANUARY 16
There will be a West Virginia Defensive Carry Course at the Holiday Inn Express in Teays Valley from 6 to 9 p.m. Register by going to www.focusedfire-training.com/event/west-virginia-defensive-carry-course-hurricane-wv

JANUARY 17
Danielle Ellis will be at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 6 p.m. to offer an overview of insurance put in layman’s terms.
Rob Vanater with Putnam County Solid Waste Authority will be discussing recycling at 4 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
The Hurricane Civic Chorus will be starting their spring season from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. New members welcome.
