Community Calendar for Week of January 12

SATURDAYS THROUGH MARCH
There will be a free open gym for 1st through 5th graders from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at ZoneOut Sports, Morris Court, Hurricane.

JANUARY 13, 20, 27
There will be a Toddler Time craft class from 10 a.m. to noon at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $5.
Friday Crafternoon will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $5.

JANUARY 13
Friends Of Old Time Music and Dance (FOOTMAD) will be holding a dance workshop to build skills at 7 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1600 Kanawha Blvd., E (corner of Elizabeth St.), Charleston. Donations for room rental appreciated.
T&R Express will be performing from 8 to 11 p.m. at Riverside Cafe, 3680 Winfield Road, Winfield.
There will be a foam dance party for children ages 7-14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Foam Garage, 2716 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. The cost is $8 per child.

JANUARY 14
Johnny Compton will be performing at Railways Bar and Grill in Buffalo from 8 to 11 p.m.
There will be a breakfast with Casey Legg, former WVU place kicker, at 8 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Hurricane, 2635 Main Street.
The Salt & Light Food Pantry will be holding a distribution day from 9 a.m. to noon at the Winfield Nazarene Church, 10822 Winfield Raod. Bring a photo ID.
Community Autism Resources & Education Systems (CARES) will be holding a swim day from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tri-County YMCA in Scott Depot. For more information, call (304) 964-3274.
Putnam United FC Youth Soccer Team will be holding a Competitive Roster Spring Tryout from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. Open to birth years 2008-2016.

The 2023 Charleston Wedding Expo & Fashion Show will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Charleston Convention Center. Admission is $10.
Third Sunday Board Games will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn in Teays Valley.

JANUARY 16, 23, 30

Danielle Ellis will be at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 6 p.m. to offer an overview of insurance put in layman’s terms.
Rob Vanater with Putnam County Solid Waste Authority will be discussing recycling at 4 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
The Hurricane Civic Chorus will be starting their spring season from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. New members welcome.
There will be a Bible study from 9 to 10 a.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane.
There will be an open craft class from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane.

Facing Hunger Foodbank will be hosting a mobile distribution from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Buffalo United Methodist Church, 27 High Street, Buffalo.
Rob Vanater with Putnam County Solid Waste Authority will be discussing recycling 10 a.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
Raechel from the Putnam County Extension Office will be at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 5 p.m. to teach students about light diffraction.

JANUARY 20 – 22
The WV Hunting & Fishing Show 2023 will be held at the Coliseum and Convention Center in Charleston. Hours are noon to 9 p.m. on Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $9 at the door.

JANUARY 20
Bancroft Mission, 5936 Charleston Road, Bancroft, will be holding TODAH, an evenign of praise and thanksgiving, at 6:30 p.m.
Toast, the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce’s monthly meet-up, will be held at 8 a.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley.

JANUARY 21
Huntington Old Time Music And Dance will be holding a dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Heritage Farm, 3300 Harvey Road, Huntington.
The West Virginia Reptile Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wilson Student Union at West Virginia State University. The cost for admission is $5.
The Needhams from Nashville, TN, will be performing at WV Home Mission Church, 1128 Benamati Avenue, Nitro, starting at 6 p.m.
The Hurricane Walmart will be holding a store celebration from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Music, food, games, and more.

JANUARY 24
Rachael Carrico of Van Deysen Law will be discussing estate planning at 6 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
A super scientist from Belle Chemical will be leading some fun experiments about liquid stacking (lava lamps!) and friction at 5 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
There will be a Bible Study from 9 to 10 a.m. and Yarn and Yak from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at at My Messy Desk, 151 Dudding Avenue, Hurricane.

JANUARY 25

JANUARY 28
