Hurricane High School’s two award-winning show choirs, Red Hot and Heat Wave, debuted their exciting new competition shows last weekend. On January 5 through 8, fans of Red Hot and Heat Wave packed the Hurricane High cafeteria, where they enjoyed a special meal while being entertained by the musical talents of the students who make up the show choirs. After the meal was finished, everyone filed into the gymnasium for the two performance shows.

On Saturday evening, members of the graduating class of 2023 were honored by being escorted to the stage by family members and presented with a rose. After announcing the names of the seniors and their escorts, Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards told the audience each student’s favorite song and best memory of their show choir experience.

Heat Wave, Hurricane’s all-girl choir, featured a slumber party theme for their performance. Songs chosen for the show were meant to reflect the fun times that teen girls have with their friends. The exuberant performance featured lots of lively songs and dancing, plus a pillow fight.
The theme of the Red Hot competition show was the Garden of Eden. A large tree was set up as part of the set backdrop, and students sang songs about love and paradise. During one memorable number, the trunk of the tree turned around, revealing a male singer who was portraying the infamous snake. Unlike the original story which ended in tragedy, Red Hot’s spectacular performance finished with a medley of the songs “God’s Great Dance Floor” and “God is a DJ.”

Both Red Hot Show Choir and Heat Wave will be performing in competition shows around the country, starting with Beaver Creek in Ohio. Over the years, Red Hot has competed at high schools throughout the region and has earned many awards for their hard work and talent.
