Community Calendar for Week of February 2

MONDAYS IN FEBRUARY
A Youth Book Club meets at the Eleanor Library at 3:30 p.m. every Monday.

TUESDAYS IN FEBRUARY
Sit and Stitch – a crochet basics class – will be held during business hours every Tuesday (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at the Hurricane Library.

SATURDAYS THROUGH MARCH
There will be a free open gym for 1st through 5th graders from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at ZoneOut Sports, Morris Court, Hurricane.

FEBRUARY 3 – 4
The Friends of Old Time Music and Dance Old Time Winter Breakdown will feature square dancing at 7:30 p.m. at the Woman’s Club of Charleston and workshops and Appalachian heritage activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the West Virginia Cultural Center in Charleston. FEBRUARY 3
There will be an internet basics class at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley at 10 a.m.
Mason Adkins will be performing at 7 p.m. at Connolly’s Irish Pub, Main Street, Hurricane.

FEBRUARY 4 – 5

Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, 25053 Buffalo Road, will be holding a Poor Man’s Meal Fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to fund a youth trip.
The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be showing the movie “Black Panther” at 10 a.m.

The Hurricane Polar Plunge will start at 3:30 p.m. at Hurricane City Park. This fundraiser goes to support the Special Olympics of West Virginia.
There will be a free karate workshop for ages 5 and up from noon to 1 p.m. at Pinnacle Karate Center, 3544 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

FEBRUARY 5
Grace Life Church, 93 Joy Lane, Culloden, will feature a sermon on grief at 10 a.m. as part of their Group Therapy Sermon Series.

As part of the Putnam Library’s STEMuary event, there will be a class on oobleck and acid and bases at 5 p.m. at the main library in Teays Valley.
There will be a formal dress giveaway, sizes 2-26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Grace Life Church, 93 Joy Lane, Culloden.

FEBRUARY 8
There will be an internet basics class at 2 p.m. at the Poca Library.
A chess club meets from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.

FEBRUARY 9
Author Katherine Manley will be speaking at 1:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Library.
There will be a Fine Wine tasting and Hors D’oeuvre party from 6 to 9 p.m. at Creative Kitchens, 3550 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, to benefit the Putnam County Animal Shelter. Cost: $50 per person/ $90 per couple. For more information, call (681) 233-3494.

Gamers ages 10 and up can play Root, a multi-player role-playing board game of woodland might and right, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.
